Default Seat belt light

So I am about to put the Harnes in my car and one thing that i hate is the seat belt light coming on and making that anoying noice. Is there a way to re program these. or get a bukle from porsche parts and cut it out of belt and just put it there for DE events.

Any ideas from you guys that have done the 4,5, or 6 point harnesses

you can usually wrap the seat belt around the back of the driver seat(GT3 seats) and into the seat belt plug when you use your harnesses. No re-programming...sorry

Even better, visit a U-pull-it salvage yard with a sharp knife. Cut the belt buckle off a late model VW (Porsches are hard to find in these places) and plug it in when you use your harnesses. It stops the light and tone. I got my buckle for $1, and the amusement value of the yard and its denizens was worth more than that.

what the starting year for VW that this buckle will work for our cars ? 1990 and newer ?
It is neater than the seat belt wrap around.

I can't tell you when VW started using the same buckles as the ones Porsche uses, but I had no trouble finding quite a few that worked. I took a long look at the shape of the Porsche buckle and then looked for ones that seemed similar. I probably cut 10 off (remember you can use the front and back belts on the VW) and 8 of them worked fine. If you find an Audi, BMW or other German car you'll find the same buckles--it's just that there are more wrecked VWs around here. The extra buckles I keep meaning to take to the track for those who don't yet have one. I found that if it looks good, it probably is good. You do need a sharp knife, though, to cut the belts. A razor box cutter is perfect.

nmex, be careful of the 4-point belts! The anti-sub strap is really a necessity along with a proper seat for fitting it. The Schroth web site has an excellent pdf download on how to install belts. I got Schroth 6-point Hybrid II belts, with the HANS-specific shoulder belts on the driver side, but I think the Schroth instructions have general applicability.

If you search for my posts you will see embarrassingly long set of threads on what to get and how to install. There is a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned from the posters here. I am indebted to all of them, and highly recommend Rockitman's installation gallery.

My mechanic reprogramed mine so the bell doesn't ring (it rings when you first start the car then stops). The light is still on but a quick stab of the program lever clears the display.

Could be the dealer is telling you it can't be reprogramed but that is not true.

I did the same thing. Cut mine out of an old Golf. Perfect fit.

THANK YOU for that info! I've done one track day with the chimes and don't want to go through that again. I called the dealer and they don't sell the buckles separate from the belts, and wanted $300+ for the belt/buckle.

I think it's more of an insurance/warranty thing(my dealer), to cover their butt...
