Default Front Splitter Install

I installed a new Motorsport front splitter this past weekend only to find the section in the center of the nose missing 2 clips and hanging down. Can those clips they provide be any cheaper? . I am going to try it again with some double sided tape and 3M adhesive with the clips. Has anyone who installed this had any problems with these clips or used something else to hold the splitter in place?

My OEM splitter came off completely at the track last time. It ws a loss. Those fasteners are CHEAP quality. I heard the plastic of the splitter itself is low quailty on the Motorsport version. Is it a lot more aggressive?

Bill,
If you use the 3M attachment tape, the push rivets do not go into the bumper cover as far (due to the thickness of the tape in between) and thus the rivets form a tighter fit. I've had no problems with the tape plus the push rivets.

I use aluminum rivets and fender washers to attach the splitter on my Cup car. It only came off once and that was at Daytona after a trip across the grass at the bus stop.

I saw a friends front Lip come off his GT3 at the track and it seemed to be fastened with the push fasteners along with double sided tape.

I replaced the splitter on my Mk1, but used the push-in rivets and it has stayed on very well, even with several kerbings etc....part numbers and more details here:

It comes from the factory with both double sided tape and rivets. When I had to replace mine I also found that the rivets alone are not enough to keep the chin in place, got to also use the tape.

The motorsport spoiler didn't come with double sides tape, only the OEM spoiler did.

Sunday morning on my way to a PCA event at Summit Point I hit a squirrel, tried not to but alas, guess what happened to the splitter.

Need some suggestions on where to buy a new one... Thanks...

Call Austin at Devek 650-369-3383 he sells them for $139. I installed mine last weekend. Make sure you use the push pin rivits not the screw type, 3-M adhesive and 3-M double sided tape for a good fit.

What are the 3M adhesive and tape (what's the difference), and where can these be purchased? Thanks--

Geoff.

The 3-M adhesive is a fluid substance in a packet which is supplied with a gauze to apply to the 3-M tape. The tape alone won't hold the splitter to the nose. The adhesive give a really good bond with the tape. I got mine from the body shop I work with. But if you do a search on the web you can easliy find this. Auto supply stores or auto paint suppliers.
