2005 E46 M3

You know like that old American car feeling - drifting down the road, always moving the wheel to keep it going straight. A bit diconnected.
All M3's be it the E30, the E36 or the E46, the stock suspension will always make you feel "disconnected". Especially for those who are used to the track prep cars.

OK guys - I ordered a new E46 M3 today - thanks for all of the input!
I didn't get the competition package because I need to run all season tires on 18's in the winter and the 18's won't fit over the larger rotors in the Comp Package car. I will add the Comp Package 19's for summer wheels.
I'll drive it for awhile before deciding on suspension upgrades.

For someone like you who have extensive track time, that "awhile" before the suspension upgrades will be 4-5 weeks!
P.S. Did you sell that Yellow Rocket of yours?

Mous3,
Titanium Silver, Black leather, Cold weather, Premium (sun roof, power seats), adjustable width and lumbar seats, xenon, Harmon-Kardon, 6 speed.
There have been some threads on the M3Forum about the 18"s on the comp rotors and no one has come up with a solution - the 18's don't fit. I'll probably track the M3 a couple of times just to learn how it handles, but as I've said before I have other track day weapons, so who knows if I need a suspension change from stock.
I'm traveling all this week so the GT3 will go up for sale on the 16th when I'm back in town.

How is it possible that smaller comp package rotors with a floating caliper not clear 18 inch wheels?

IIRC, those brakes for the Competition Pkg are from the M3 CSL (or at least similar) where BMW Motorsport deliberately designed parts so that retrofitting on normal E46 M3 is difficult.
2nd Edit: Guys, are the calipers on GT3 monobloc?

The GT3 calipers as far as I know are monobloc.
The brake pedal feel is infinitely better than my E46 M3 for sure.

This is not an emotional statement; it's a cool, calm, collected one. Please don't take the word 'pig' as inflammatory:
Those who don't think the E46 is a pig on the track need some seat time in an E36. It's as obvious as being slapped upside the head. It's about the same difference as how much of a pig my 996 turbo was compared to the 996 GT3.
BTW, I certainly didn't think my stock-suspended E36 felt disconnected. It was one of the sweetest-steering cars I've driven.

P.S. Both E36 and E46 are pigs compare to my E30. And the E30 is a pig compare to my Kart.

Unladen Weights;
E30 M3 = 2,735 lbs (+0.0 lbs) 2.3L I-4 (195 bhp) 14.03 lbs/bhp
E36 M3 = 3,175 lbs (+440 lbs over E30) 3.2L I-6 (240 bhp) 13.23 lbs/bhp
E46 M3 = 3,415 lbs (+240 lbs over E36) 3.2L I-6 (333 bhp) 10.26 lbs/bhp
Hmmmmm those fender flares got us...
Wait!
My CRG + 165 lbs A-hole = 395 lbs 12 bhp(?) 30.42 lbs/bhp
So, I concluded that the word "Pig" has nothing to do with the weight!
All this time I thought "Pig" is refering to being over-weight.
Fu@king Pigggggggggggg!!! Turn you pig, turn here!!!! Grrrrrr I need to drive with the smallest slip angle...arrrrrr what the..... F$#! damit... at least pave the run off, you fools... Okay... don't carry too much speed into the turn next time around.... dammmm I need more brakes..... these tires sucks anyway.... yea yea you pass me... that's because... F%&! no wayyyyyyyy I can't be that slow... 4 seconds off?.... I need to rip the carpets out...
What kind of animal that doesn't like to change direction? We need a new term... these new models sucks.

3050 lbs at 360 bhp from a 3.2L I-6. That gives 8.47 lbs/bhp?
