The oil tank sits right on top of the engine just below the rear deck.

Ahhh...the children on this tread make a funny. How about growing up boys. The fact is, if you do not track your car, your shocks on a 996 will provide you a lifetime of safe, confortatble service. (well over 100,000 miles) I guess you are of the breed that also only gets 20,000 miles out of a clutch.

1999 - sorry, I didn't mean to dis your supercharger (I'm guessing you have one) but can it be removed without leaving any evidence behind? Perhaps a hole for another injector or a modified ECU?

There are two supercharged cars in the local club. One is a C4S (993) with a kit which is an abortion - there is no way the car can be returned to stock and after a year when the ownere tried to trade it in no dealer would take it. Perhaps the 996 installation (or another supplier's kit) can be removed without evidence. I suspect a dealer would spot the changes though and might not want it in trade. As you say, if you drive them to the point where resale value is unimportant then it doesn't matter at all.

GT3 seats and the Techart roll bar are bolt ins with no holes to drill. The seats can be swapped out in less than 30 mins. My original seats are sitting in plastic wrap waiting for the next owner <grin>.

Best,

Viken,
I don't think the standard C4 chassis has the recess for the oil tank in the rear deck. I don't know if they rework the standard deck on the C4 or make a special one to accomodate the oil tank.

Bob:

The 993 SC is a totally different animal than the Centrifuge system on my 996. There are no additional injectors, just higher flowing ones. No modifications of any sort to body and all componants are easily removed and stock componants re-installed. The only thing I would leave from the system is the 3rd raditaor which I would plum to the cooling system rather than the after-cooler. The DME is reflashed to stock specs.

Really? Is that right?

I have 18,000 miles on my car and I'd swear my 8 year old shocks have had it. But these are on a 993. Maybe the factory put better ones on the 996.

I did track that car once, at Road America. Would one track weekend wear them out (it was raining)?

I was going to replace the shocks with PSS-9 and a bigger bar. Should high performance suspensions last 100,000 miles too?

How long should a set of brake pads last?

As for the brakes, if you don't track you6 6 speed car, but otherwise drive your car hard, but properly, anything less than 40,000 would be low miles on the original brakes. You should get 50,000 plus on the fronts.

Not a chance. Maybe 25k-30k if you don't drive hard.

Well, stop by and see car. Almost 50,000 miles on my factory orginal brakes system, including pads. But I guess it must not be true because you said it can't be. Maybe I am driving with no brakes?

I guess that is another improvement they made on the 996 over the 993.

Would you define "driving hard, but properly"?

Those are longer lives than I've heard of for consummables.
