If I moved to the States ???
Hi guys,
Just joined here so go gentle !!
I may have an opportunity to retire in the next few months, and was thinking of maybe moving over to the states from England.
First thing i would have to do, is to get used to driving on the wrong side of the car !!
But main reason for post is to get an idea for the track day scene over there.
Do you have many race curcuits out there, do you have the same kind of organisations that organise them for you as we do over here ?
Thanks
G.

Glenn, I think that you will find people over here as passionate about their cars and driving as in your native England. As far as tracks, we have quite a few, probably over 100 (?) and some very world renowned ones at that. Stick to the southern East coast or California for the greatest variety and best weather. There are a lot of tracks in the Chicago area, but they have really long and cold winters, and the central south (Texas, Arizona etc) are usually always warm, but most of the tracks are flat.
As far as events, there are drivers ed events hosted by PCA regions, by other car clubs, and by private promoters, so there are many to choose from. I'm sure others can chime in with more specific information.

Yep, I'm an ex-pat, and I love it here, click the two links in my signature below to get a pictorial overview of 'car life' here in sunny SoCal, and feel free to ask any questions. With £-$ so strong in your favor there is no better time to make the move!

sure the climate/roads arent bad, but the law enforcement is strict
when you enter texas, they should have a sign that has a guy on an electric chair that says "don't f*ck up"

Thanks for the replies guys,
I didn't think to ask about the law enforcement, do you guys ever get to stretch your legs on normal roads out there, i've heard that the roads are pretty straight, with lots of speed traps ??
Mmmm, California sounds nice !!!!

The track scene here is very nice too (closest local track to Denver has open driving days every week that only cost $48 for 4 hours)
Real Estate costs less than 1/2 of California too...

I don't think you can beat california for the number of tracks. You get:
Laguna Seca
Thunderhill
Infineon (Sears Point)
Buttonwillow
WillowSprings (big track and street of willows)
California speedway
As far as driving in the street, I would have said that CHP are somewhat tolerant but I just got a ticket for not much...
