I've been raising my 914's with the transaxle now for 33+ years with no ill effects. Wouldn't think it would be big problem with the engine unless you were really stupid and it somehow slipped off before you had the stands under it...

The service manual, for what it's worth, does not identify the engine as a jacking point. Only the four points by the wheels.

AC stands are definitely worth the money.

Don't jack directly on the engine case. Instead use the jack plate bolted to the lower edge of the engine case immediately behind the rear sway bar. At first glance the plate does not look like a jack point because it is tilted, but it works fine.
