Question Jack Stands

Any preferred brand or style of jack stands that people are using or do the standard ones found everywhere work just fine with our cars?

Thanks.

Regular jack stands (Harbor Freight) with hockey pucks fitted to the tops as bumpers. Read about doing that here in a few threads.

It's hard to beat the AC stands and jacks available from Ulitmate Garage and other sources. I had my 964 slip off my cheap Sears jack and the cost to get it fixed was well above what a good jack cost. With the AC stands in place, I have no worries about being under the car.

I got a beautiful aluminum one from Costco - haven't had the opportunity to check it out yet.

I have the stands from ultimate as well- very nice with a round rubber top and round bases that spread out the weight. The cheap ones sometimes cut into hot asphalt... got a nice aluminum jack to use when going to the track for $110 at Costco- very lightweight.

AC all the way. Cost the most and they are the best. Get the flat top versions...

Thanks for all the input. (I thought it was a dumb question when I posted it and that I might get flamed, but the feedback has been eye opening.)

I ordered a new jack today...http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039...for less than $90 delivered to my front door. I've seen a few people recommend this one in the past and thought I'd give it a shot.

Those AC stands sure look sweet. The irony is that they would cost me more than 2x what I paid for the jack. Something to think about.

I believe you get what you pay for with regards to the jack. I hope you are one of the ones where the HF one lasts a while and doesn't die after only a few uses. And don't listen to Kim, he just a wussie and doesn't like lugging a 70 lb jack around with all the other junk we take to the track. Then again, it may not fit in his wreck-me-otter. I'm goofy enough to bring it (and the jack stands) to every track event. If nothing else I get some weight-lifting exercises in while loading and unloading.

Holger, you're a local so any time you need to see any toys (or need help), just ask on the BAR group on Yahoo. Hope to see you at the track or an autocross some time soon.

That was my old setup which I am now replacing. Long story...

Anyhow, I don't know if I could get that jack under the GT3.

It barely clears mine, so I doubt it. BTW where is the jack point on the rear of the car (not the rear tire point)?

There are jack points on both sides in front of the rear tires. I believe most people use the engine case. I'll be checking into that before I try it and possibly make a VERY expensive mistake.

Is it ok to use the engine case? I've seen this done on Cup cars - particularly older Cup cars (air cooled).
