Default Lap times??

For you guys taking your GT3 Street cars to the track (hopefully everyone), what kind of lap times are you doing in comparison with Cup car times? What tires are you using? Alignment? Etc?
Can you give me some examples? What track?
I have been doing DE events for a little over a year.
I have done a 2:08 flat at VIR Full on Dunlop slicks. I know cup cars at the DE events average 2:03 - 2:05. (These are not Pros but I'm obviously not either). Pros in the SGS class at Grand Am (Cup cars - not RS's) run about 2:00 flat.
I am running about 1.5 degrees neg camber in front almost 2 degrees in rear, o toe in front.
I can't remember my sway bar settings now, but i will check them. (I haven't changed them since the last track day).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I ran 2:08's at VIR in the fall on Dunlop SSRs. I think that you need more camber in the front. You should run at least 3 degrees with slicks, maybe even more. I have 3 degrees in the front & 3.3 in the back for street tires but that is too much for the rear. I have to reset it to 2.5 and see how that works. And well driven cup cars run 2:00s at VIR, at least that's what Leh Keen does in the one he drives.

Cort Wagner is able to do 1:27 in a stock GT3 on MPSC's at Willow Springs; I've timed a well sorted Cup car at a hair over 1:20, and I've been told that 1:18 is possible. (I've been going quite a bit, and I've yet to see a 1:37 myself!!)

Macfly - at Willow Cort ran a 1:22.1 in my 2003 Cup car. I have not seen anyone go faster than that in a Cup car. The 1:18 +/- times were run in GT3 RS's by Cort and Bill Auberlin. It may be possible to go below 1:22, but it would be an all out bonzi lap!

John, I haven't yet learnt enough about all the racing variants to distinguish between the Cups, Cup RS's and Cup RSR's, so I'm sure I'm mixing them all up together as they still look pretty similar to me! I'll get it figured out as I spend more time around them!

I keep looking out for 993 Cups after your high praise of them, but haven't spotted one as yet. Here however is a pretty RSR that Hans Stuck raced at Le Mans, (I'm learning!) which happened to be at the track while I was there on Saturday. I timed it at 1:22.3 on my clunky stopwatch, and the owner driver said he was just running in a new motor, keeping to around 6,500! (he said it runs to 8,000rpm and make a hair under 400hp at the rear wheels.)

Yesterday at Streets of Willow this 2005 Cup car (not with me driving it even though that is me behind the wheel) was being broken in. The driver ripped off a bunch of 1:12's (my fastest in a GT-3 was 1:14) while sipping a grande decaf latte.

Ahh, Fred - don't temp me!

I actually have a few feelers out for 04 and 05 Cup cars - used ones of course. Some people from this board have contacted me privately with generous offers to help me find the right car for me. I've also talked to two local sources.

A 997 isn't going to happen because:
1. It's too much money
2. I believe that when PMS starts selling them here in 2006 they all all go to teams.

The time isn't right for me this spring - I have a major construction project going on at my house and lots of money tied up. Probably this fall will be the right time which should coincide nicely with many teams moving their 04's and 05's to get the 997.

The 997's will have the SM trany, will be a lot more money, and a lot more to repair. The cup car is going to a much more expensive level unfortunately.

Kevin a friend of mine just got the last new one available, you should see him out running in a couple of weeks!

I rather have a 996 cup, -unless you have an unlimited budget (like Fred).
