Anybody get their new Car and Driver?

WOW !!! The C-6 Z06 is drawing interest across the WEB !
Lots of negative comments here on a car that NO ONE has driven or seen on a track ! This thread seems to be turning into a bashing contest of Porsche vs. Vette.
The Z06 wasn't designed as a "cruiser" and the orginial model didn't offer many Foo Foo options! But the C-5 Z06 did do one thing Remarkably well, it EARNED the respect of a knowledgable group of enthusiasts who track their cars
Those of us who TRACK our cars at places like Road Atlanta, VIR, etc., seem to have a greater appreciation for one another's sportscars, and we really enjoy running with other vechicles!
The Porsche 944 Turbo remains popular, and is still competitive, even being 20 years old. It's drive train lay-out is simular to the latest Vettes! IMO... The 944 probably is the most neutural handling stock car ever offered by Porsche!
Remarkable coincidence.... Hhmmmmmm.
For those of you who are doubting GM's engineering capability, come on out and see how the current Z06 does runnng with Porsches, Ferrari's etc.! Oh, and by the way... Our reliability has been OUTSTANDING !
Now imagine adding another 81 cubic inches, ~ 95 hp./~75 ft.lbs torque with better brakes and cooling! Awesome thought, huh HUH !

I never liked Corvettes until now (well... the 1957 was/is also a beauty imho). The C6 changed my mind and looking at the Z06 oh well .
But these cars do not replace each other... meaning that I love the looks and feel of the Porsche (911, 951, etc.) but also happen to like the new Vette a lot. I cannot see myself ever without a Porsche so for now the 951 and the 964 will do and I will try to keep them and just add a Corvette to the stable
BTW, here are some photos of the Z06:
Let me find a few more to post.

Here we go...
And one last one:
If I had enough money... this would share the garage with a GT3, F360, American Iron Horse Tejas, and an Aston Martin DB9

The more competition there is in the sports car world the better it is for us as consumers. I hope the z06 lights a fire under Porsche's ***. My 03 Boxster S was considered a significant redesign with an 8hp bump, 2 cupholders, a glove box, and a glass rear windshield among other very minor things. Give me a break. While I consider Porsches to be amazing sports cars, Porsche risks alienating customers like me who value price and performance more than the badge on their hood.

As I read the posts I am amazed at the amount of tribal behavior there is out there.
Some will categorically not drive Japanese or American cars since they do not have the "tribal image" one desires to associate with.
Too bad a product can't stand on it's virtues alone in today's world.

Yep, there are a lot of very blinkered and narrow minded folks out there when it comes to automotive capability. I think the Z06 will be an absolute hoot to drive, and I can't wait to have a go in one!

Personally, I think the new Z06 is astounding. Enough to make me sell my porsche for one? Probably not, but I think it's a great car anyways. I agree that there is a lot of tribal behavior out there.
One thing is true though, I think porsche isn't heading in the right path at the moment. Although, i'm curious to see how that C7s fairs out...
Oh and maybe someone can enlighten me on this, I thought that corvette was copying the 951's engineering in the 80's - 90s? Could be wrong though...

Pontiac had a rear mounted transmission on the Pontiac Le Mans of 1963, Ferrari has used transaxels since the 60's.
So the rear mounted gearbox is not new.

I would never buy a regular Corvette, but I saw the C6 Z06 at the LA Autoshow, and on top of it's performance specs it also looks impressive. At the projected ~$68K price point I'd get this car over any current Porsche except the GT2, GT3, Carrera GT...
Porsche should just go ahead and use that Cayenne engine properly and shoehorn it into the Boxster Coupe RS.

If Porsche were building cars following their old paradigm we would have an all aluminum bodied car with a magnesium engine and transmission, forged alloy wheels and a forged aluminum suspension....and a 911 that weighed around 2600 pounds.
Instead we get from the new Porsche an all steel body (well, an aluminum hood) with engine, suspension and wheels of cast aluminum weighing in at over 3100 pounds.

Before choosing the GT3 this was my short list in early 2004 (in order of preference):
1. Ford GT
2. Gallardo
3. F360 CS
So I walked into a Ford dealership in Mission Valley! As you approach the showroom there is this rotten smell in the air and the path is littered with cheap dirty minivans, utility trucks and SUVs. In the showroom some “tribal people" from south of the border (no offense intended to anyone) drooling over a Mustang and the Harley Davidson truck with the popdown DVD player. Within a nanosecond the used car salesman type with the yellow tie and overhung gut materializes. I am dressed in shorts and a Polo shirt and I could tell he was eyeing the Ford Escort for me. “OMFG you want the Ford GT !!!!” and I was surprised he actually took this seriously. Within 10 seconds there are five other people including the sales manager, and she is trying to a shove the GT down my throat to the tune of $200K.
After that and prior to the Leipzig trip with Ben (CGT pre-delivery) it was an EASY choice between the 360CS and Gallardo and following the trip it was ONLY GT3. It is almost impossible to appreciate how incredible the GT3 is unless you have been to the Porsche track with factory drivers and witness the performance and endurance of this machine.
FYI the Ford GT was recently recalled for life threatening safety issues and Japan has nothing remotely close to a Ford GT.

Now if you doubt my safety claims about the Z06 have a close look at the frame “protecting” the driver in the picture above. Compare that to a full steel cage or the CGT CF cockpit for a really good laugh. They compromised YOUR life for 0 to 60 times buddy and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

There haven't been any failures on the Ford GT, the recall is preemptive, so why is it "life threatening?"
I could make some equally baseless argument about a 911 being less safe than a Z06 in a front end collision because it doesn't have a big lump of an engine in front to absorb the impact...

I imagine Porsche is totally compromising many lives by producing a 911 Cabriolet without a roll bar.
If anyone is laughing on the way to the bank it's Porsche with the highest per unit profit of any car manufacturer.
