any news on a 997 GT3?
anyone hear anything new about the next generation GT3? I don't want to buy a 996 GT3 if a 997 GT3 is just around the corner.....

if you can get into an MK2 GT3, by all means,
there is highly likely chance that the MK1 997 GT3 will not make it into the USA and only be produced in Europe for homologation reasons, that and Porsche miight actually want to help preserve the USA market.
that said, anythings possible. but there most certainly WILL be a 997 GT3 street car, weather or not it makes it to the USA, and when, is another issue.

Both the "unofficial" source of all information over at Rennteam, and I (being a subcontractor), know that there will be a 997 GT3 for the street, to be MY06 (can be ordered next summer). Will have a sequential shifter, be based on the 3.8L with more bhp than current 996 mk II GT3. The moderator at RennTeam knows more, and I cannot tell you more now.

RSA333, you dog, how can you tease us like that? We need more info because I am really missing my 996TT and have toying with the idea of buying a 997S instead of waiting for the 997TT or GT3, unless it is coming next summer.

Insiders say that we won't see a GT3 for street use in North America until well into the run of the 998. For the next while PAG will be busy with the volume models of the 997, a Turbo and Cab and no doubt a tubo-Cab. They are also hard at work on the 998 which will be a ground up new car as opposed to a refresh like the 997. When they come out with the 998 they'll be busy with high volume models C2, C4S, Turbo, Cab and combinations thereof. Let's not forget that a lot of hours are being invested in the "4th model" which is believed to be a sedan to compete with BMW. Audi etc.
Chances are we'll see a street legal GT3 when time permits and that looks to be 5-6 years from now. Consider that it took five years to get a 996 GT3 to us .. why should the next one be different. For a run of 1000 odd cars.. hardly good business. If want one, buy it now.

You make a great point Bob. It wouldn't make sense for Porsche to be different on the model line progression this time around than any other time. It's just the same in the racing world. In the early 70s we had the R, then RS, then RSR, in the 80s there was the RS, in the 90s there was the GT2 and the RSR, in the 00s there was the GT3 R, the GT3 RS, and this year we saw the GT3 RSR. Guess only time will tell. Now if I can somehow get Porsche to put a racing battery cut-off switch on a GT3 for me, I'll be in business.

Just a note. It won't 5-6 years for another GT3 to reach these shores, it will be 2-3 years at most. Also - the 998 is somewhat delusional thinking - where is the evidence of this model, except in the minds of Porsche drivers? It is not at Porsche 'AG', so I do not what "insiders" are being talked to. And some ill-informed magazine folks are pushing this notion...wrong again.

According to AutoWeek and my dealer the street 997 GT3 engine is going to be based on the 3.8L Carrera S engine and not the 3.6L in the current 996 GT3 or the upcoming 997 GT3 Cup. As I have said before, I seriously doubt that its going to be used to homologate anything. The 996 GT3 is the one to have.

Graham - is that for ROW or US. The MK1 GT3 was available in Europe for years before the US got one.
