On a 996GT3 a perfect respray can be done for $500-$600. Once they match the paint, they pull the bumper cover off and respray it. No taping or protecting the car from overspray required...fyi

mborkow--The chips were on my previous car, my C2. I got the clearbra installed on the GT at about 800 miles and there were no chips.

Have some "road rash" on my RSA but have been very reluctant to respray as I'm concerned that it basically amounts to a repaint of the original finish. Any opinions in regard to affect of resale?

rockitman, the nose job to which i was refering is not just the bumper, but rather the whole car forward from the windshield (including the mirrors). that is the bumper, the hood and the fenders.

I follow. On a 996 as I am sure you are aware, it would be a much simpler job being that the entire front bumper cover removes quite easily...unless the fenders and hood were in tough shape, which is usually not the case unless you drive behind dump trucks on a consistent basis...

The clear bra is the only way to go for me.....I installed my own with a kit from X-Pel the fit was perfect and the extra thickness of the headlight film is great, I'll post pics if anyone is interested.

The finished job, although a little tricky, is just about invisible.

There are no professional installers in my area..(apart from me )

How hard was the install ??? Are the instructions with the kit self explanatory and guide you successfully through the process???

Rockitman,
As long as the very good instructions are followed, then the process is not too difficult. It's very important to have a good source of light off to the side of the car so that you can check for air/liquid trapped under the film.
I made the mistake initially of doing the job on a hot humid summer night with the garage door open so the bugs getting onto the film was a problem.
Besides making a great stone chip preventer it is fantastic fly paper

If any of you guys wanted to see first hand how the clear bra installs are done:

Eric and I will be in LA this weekend doing installs, San Fran next weekend doing installs and back again in San Jose area Jan 8th through the 17th with no installs scheduled yet!!!

Eric (my other half) is a rennlist site sponsor and you can contact him directly if you are in the San Jose/San Fran area and wanted to schedule an install in January!

yes, the 3M material has a built in clear coat on it. It is designed to emulate the paint and can be treated just like the paint on your car with wax.
