I think it´s a Gemballa Car-Kit (Engine and Spoilers) for the 997 no GT3 or so, because of the Lizensplates BB (Leonberg)= Gemballa.... most of the Porsche Cars have S (Stuttgart (Zuffenhausen) Lizensplates.

http://www.gemballa.de/
(most of the pic´s have BB Lizensplates)

Greetings from Hamburg

I think the 997 GT3 will just use a 3.8L version of the current 3.6L true dry sump race bred engine. It might gain a little weight. They will keep it simple IMO. I'm really not too concerned at this point about the next GT3, while I enjoy my current one. Of course as true 911 fans, we are always concerned that they don't screw up the next one, especially the GT3.

The BB stands for Boblingen, which is just outside of Stuttgart.
In Germany, the first few letter of the license plate identifies the town/province the car is registered in.

S stands for Stuttgart, M for Munich, F for Frankfurt etc etc etc...
The BB (boblinging) were also used when Prosche introduced the 959.
See pics attached.

The fact the Gemballa uses BB plates is no coincidence if they register the car in the same town. In fact ALL of the townspeople who live in boblingen will have BB on their license plates.
So to surmise that this yellow GT3 prototype is a Gemballa b/c "ALL" gemabballa's have a BB on their licence plate is as preposterous as seeing one of the towns people's car -who have a BB on their licence plate - and thinking it is a Gemballa.

Two observations:

1) I don't think the current 3.6 GT1 derived GT3 motor can be extended to 3.8 liters. From what I remember reading the gap between cylinders on the 3.6 is only 18mm. Boring out to 3.8 liters would need a redesigned block.

2) Maybe all this talk of a 997S derived 3.8 motor for the 997GT3 is all a ruse to move the remaining 996 GT3's off of dealer lots. If the real enthusiast, who is the target GT3 buyer, knows the next one isn't going much more than a "tarted up" 997S, they may instead make a grab for the last of the "true" GT3's. The 996 version.

preposterous
now there is a wonderdful old word that really sounds like it what it means, especially when spat out in the heat of a debate. It just isn't used often enough in our modern world, thanks for bringing it up RR!

I read somewhere that one of the German tuners, I believe it is Manthey, has a 3.9 L version of the GT3 engine. I don't know if they did it by increasing the bore or the stroke.

Default 997

Porsche or any auto manufacturer is in the business of making better cars every subsequent model year...or at least try to. I see no reason to "talk-down" the new 997 or potential variations just because we own the current version. If anyone really purchased the current MkII GT3 in hopes of it being a rare collectable item made a mistake. Newer cars get better and faster and handle better either through technology or making a better widget.

PAG will come out with something faster and better than the current GT3. Be happy with what you have - drive it and enjoy it.

Just my opinion.

I think the current block can handle 3.9L or 4.0L.

After the MKI model was released and BEFORE the MKii model, I remember reading in I think Sport Auto (a german car magazine) about a cup car with 3.9L capacity that they tested.

it will be a dry sump - (wet sumps don't cut it in racing) - this car will be homoligated with at least 3.8L possibly more later.
it will have some interesting suspension bits and further changes to the geometry.
it should make it to the US -

my 2 1/100 of a euro (1.4 Cents!!!)

Manthey Racing has a 420Hp 3.9 GT3
Koro has a 480Hp 4.6 GT3

Both engines are based on our block, with just changes on the internals. That's the approach that Porsche should follow. In fact the Koro car www.koro.de outruns a GT2 in every single test (0-100mph in 7.5 seconds). The engine upgrade is quite expensive at 48,000 euros.

that's a four-wheeled mechanical orgasm.

How did they get 4.6 anyways? i mean the bore can go out a little bit, but not much. do you know by how much they increased the stroke?
