Excuse my ignorance but what are you looking for underneath to say it's a wet sump. Pics are abit blurry. One of the reasons I bought the 996 GT3 is I like how it looks and the interior is very simple which should be that way. Only thing I miss though is the digital speedo in the Tach but oh well can't have everything : ). Regards. Mike

The Nuerburgring joke of the 997S being as fast as the 996GT3 keeps rolling. If I bring Michael Schumacher on a Boxster S and myself on a 911 Turbo, Michael will be faster than me at the ring. Does that means the Boxster S is faster than the 911 Turbo?. Be sure that once the 997S is released, one of the European magazines will compare it to the GT3 and we'll see.
If Porsche brings the crappy wet sump engine (I hope it's a prototype) with just 20HP more and close to 100 lbs of extra weight, they won't sell many of them. Most of the GT3 buyers are real Porsche enthusiasts, and they won't fall for a FAKE GT3.
Porsche AG, read this:
You won't be able to sell that aberration of a GT3 as you did with the current model. In fact I won't buy it. If you do the right thing, I'll buy it. If you do the wrong thing, my next car could be a Ferrari and from that point on I will talk really bad about your cars at every track event and autocross I show up at local, regional and national level. I do know people that ordered 2004 GT3 because of my car performance. I can do exactly the opposite thing and I'm not alone on this.

Has AutoWeek been snookered?
A German source on another forum says that the car in the photo is actually a Gemballa (sp).
Now that I look at it again it makes sense - it does kind of have that aftermarket look about it.

Looks like the 996GT3 motor will be superior to the 997 3.8. even if a little less hp...I really don't think so however...let's be honest, the current GT3's are putting out at least 400 @ the crank. Sure happy to have the dry sump system.. :-)

That would make sense, as I had understood the 997 GT3 was to share the 4WD platform of the TT cars, so I was quite surprised to see this.

Not trying to be a problem here, but was just visiting the factory and saw both what was labeled as a 997GT3 as well as a 997GT3RS. Was told both were based on the 997S 3.8L engine, but I am not sure if they will import the 997GT3 to the US - I was told that they will bring in the 997-based GT3RS as a competition car. Take this all with a grain of salt because they may just be trying out some different prototypes. I am going back there in 2 weeks so may have more information to convey. Usually Viken is one of the most knowledgable on this list about what they are are up to...

Guys,
I am puzzled. Didn't somone post an article quoting Porsche as saying there would be no GT3 until the 998? Since I have several quotes saying that there would be no GT2 after 2003 I am beginning to doubt the reliability of said information provided by "official Porsche sources".

I understand there will be both a 997 GT3 & a 998 GT3. The 998 will continue the 911's rear engined heritage, the A6 based saloon, thought to be the called the 998 initially, will materialize, but with a different model number.
(The rumour from earlier this year that the Cayanne engine may find it's way into a car is certainly false, it is way too big and heavy. It's use will be strictly truck based.)
BTW, did any of guys see this little beauty?
605 bhp

Gotta say I had my reservations also about the 997 until I saw one today at Beverly Hills Porsche Service Dept. Definitely did a nice job of blending the 993 into the new car. As for the steering wheel I agree the standard three spoke is discussing however, there are two optional wheels that do work.
