I finally have all the parts ready to begin this project chassis refresh. Since I bought the car last year I've always thought the 20 year old OEM suspension (car has 100k km) was a bit out of spec, soft, and crashy. When I did an alignment and adjusted the heights, the springs would sag back down... so obviously it was time to give this car the loving it deserves! As you all know parts these days for Porsche is SOOO expensive so I had to take my time.

I went with:

Coilovers - Nitron R3's with 140/170Nmm rates with 40/50Nmm tenders, QD's front and rear. Springs are 60mm ID 140mm length. I have a set of these on another car and I love their fit and finish. They also come complete with adjustable top plates, extended endlinks with endlink brackets. TBH I've never seen anyone use adjustable camber plates of this type for Porsche's. I don't see how there's space to be adjusting the top plates without removing the whole strut. We'll see. I find Nitron R3's to be very reasonably priced as well. I bought these from Inertia Labs in Texas.

Kinematics: 996 GT3 RS Porsche front and rear wheel uprights. Porsche Motorsports 997.1 Cup LCA's with TPC Racing inners and caster bushings. 997 Cup front/rear thrust arms. TPC Racing front outer tie rods, rear toe links, and rear upper links. What I like is these "H-beam" thrust arms still lock in the brake cooling ducts to prevent them from flopping over at high speeds. I can't say enough good things about Tom Chan from TPC Racing. His service is seriously above and beyond.

LSD: Custom 6 plate Drexler LSD from Florian @ limitedslip.de. Ramp angles are 55/45 degrees power/coast (45%/65%) with drilled molybdenum coated clutchpacks. Roughly 75Nm preload. He did my Drexler on my BMW and is just fantastic to work with. I know most on here are from the US but if you feel like buying from Europe, Florian is just awesome.

FD: Cup 4.0 FD. I know people talk about wear but I've yet to find anyone who actually wore them out outside of actual Cup cars. No 6th gear swap as I don't think I need it with this power level and won't ever be close to needing to go 190mph. Plus, if I decide to change gears later I can do it when I actually rebuild the trans for synchros etc.

I have Nitron R3's on another car. They are awesome. At the 3 way level you can't go wrong with any of them. Obviously key would be spring selection for your application.

I didn't buy the 996.2 GT3 RS rear side members but set all the arms to exactly the same lengths as what was taken off the car. We are finding that the rear toe is now toed out instead of toed in like before, and by a decent amount. It looks like for proper geometry you do need the rear side members for the GT3 RS conversion.

Whats a rear side member? Upright? If u have lowered the car to the rs height u will need adjustable toe arms. The ones from pmna or demon speed should work fine as there is plenty of adjustment in the double ended rod end bars. Also, lock out the eccrentric bolt.

Rear Subframe Side Sections. Though, I did not think there was any difference in the RS rear side sections regarding the Toe - I thought it was just camber. Good to know though and glad I have them for my conversion!

The info on the sub frame sections gets a little muddy as there r not a lot of rs subframes out in the wild. Its my understanding that the rs and gt3 subframes r dimensionally the same but there is some additonal material machined off one of a surfaces for link clearance ( BUT i may be confusing that info with the front sub frame?). I do know they moved some pick up points on the 997 rs subframes.

What i do know 100% is that the rs front uprights work fine and align fine with the front factory gt3 subframe because thats whats in my car now. With tarett top plates im at 4.2* camber and toe out 1.5mm with no bump steer using demonspeed pinch style toebars.

ill be buying the rear rs uprights soon. I do not anticipate any issues based on my research

Yeah we are just going to get it on an alignment rack and see. Will be done soon… then we’ll decide if the side members are needed.
