funny story
Came up on a brand spanking new cayenne turbo gt yesterday (in Mexico). We were on a freeway on ramp with two lanes and I give him a thumbs up and he comes up from behind then right next to me and lines up exactly parallel with me. I figure why not punch it? So I drop to third and do so, and he punches it too just a fraction of a second behind me. The outcome? Literally neck and neck when I chickened out and let up (I will not disclose the speed but it was within the speed limit of course). I get home and I see a text from a buddy (who I didn't realize had just picked up his new Cayenne GT!). Here is the the text:
"Yo Scott, you probably didn't realize that was me driving next to you in my Cayenne turbo GT but I knew that was you because I've seen your car. So we should redo that Race here because I want in sport mode and I wasn't' truly ready to punch it but this friggin cayenne Tubro GT is a baddie. I just got it delivered today. I am selling my _______ to drive this every day."
He then proceeds to call me to reiterate (again) that he wasn't ready and wasn't in sport mode LOL! Now I am under no delusion of what would have happened if we raced from a dig (its a 3-second to 60mp suv with 650 hp) or if we had kept going, but I was pretty dang happy with my 83k mile 20-year old gt3! Just goes to show why even a marginally better driver with marginally better reflexes and a marginal "head start" (i.e., getting on the throttle quicker out of a turn) can make all the difference at the track, as anyone who has been dusted by a well-driven and sorted miata understands first hand!

I’m just glad this was Porsche vs. Porsche, because my base 996 can probably get smoked by a Kia EV, lol.

I know! Trust me, he was too. I think it was just a matter of me getting the jump and being in the sweet spot in 2nd gear when I mashed the pedal. With my shorter gearing that is a pretty good area to be if you are about to roll race! I have no doubt he would have seriously gapped me had the race been longer, but up to ____mph it felt good to hang! My scud shows similar dynamics against much more powerful cars. The instant N/A response acquits itself well until the turbos of the other car have some time to spool up! My buddy used to have a very heavily modded 996 tt (bigger turbos, bigger ic's, motons, fender well air filters, mafless tune, etc...). That car and my scud would be neck and neck until about 85mph, then he would leave me.

Why not disclose what you got up to? That's a big factor.
My GT3 is confidence inspiring at 150
My 2023 base Cayenne accelerates well but it's scary at 110 in anything other than a straight line.
