GT2 is like a spicey hot vindaloo...

I think I'll keep my banana sundae until something with less calories comes along - that Elise looks sweet.

"he bought a Stradale". Hmm that probably means he will buy two more plus a 360 Challenge before he sees the error of his ways. Should be back in the fold by Christmas.

I'll chip in briefly.

I own a GT2 (that has recently been modified by Ruf to 550bhp and 580lb ft of torque). I have also driven GT3s.

Dollar for dollar, the GT3 is the winner hands down, the GT2 clearly does not offer enough extra to justify the difference in retail price.

However, ignore the money factor and the GT2 wins, it is faster, there's no dispute. Walter Rohl beat the GT3 RS time at the ring in a GT2, WITHOUT R-rated tyres and is quoted on record as saying he could have got much more out the GT2, but it wasn't set up.

As for weight difference, the difference between a GT3 Mk2 and a GT2 Mk2 is now 40kg (85lbs) or under 3%. So yes a GT2 feels just like a GT3 with TORQUE to me. All my friends with GT3s who have driven a GT2 say they'd love to trade, but cannot afford it.

Oh and try adding an extra 100bhp and 120lb ft to a GT3 easily, like Ruf did to my GT2.

I love the GT2, but in my opinion it's a GT3 with Turbos!

How much did the RUF work cost? Would you say that it had a negative or positive result on everyday drivibility versus the track? Thx.

Opinion is what makes the world go around. I drove the GT3 today and I think the GT2 is well worth the difference in price, it feels like so much more car..and it is.

RE: Tire issues and times quoted.

Nordschleife:
GT3RS: 7:47 PZero Corsa
GT3 Mk2: 7:54 PZero Rosso
GT3 Mk1: 8:03
GT2: 7:46
Turbo: 7:56

Hockenheim:
GT3RS: 1:11.8 PZero Corsa
GT3 Mk2: 1:13.2 PZero Rosso
GT3 Mk1: 1:14.9
GT2: 1:12.6
Turbo: 1:14.6

The GT3 mkII was about the same around the track as the TT on street tires. It would be interesting to see times for the GT2 on R compounds.

Doug H:

The PZero Rosso is a street tire, while the PZero Corsa is a R-compound.

The Michelin Pilot Sport fitted on the TT and GT2 is better at the track than the PZero Rosso.

That was a 2001 TT tested that had a 7:56 and if I am not mistaken, the 2001 TT came with PZero so the TT most likely had the same tire as the GT3mkII when tested.

The 2001 TT also had the non-hollow spoke (not sure, but unsprung weight could also make a little difference) and the 2001 is a little heavier than the 2002 and latter TT.

With regard to R compound, I was commenting on the comparison earlier in the thread to the GT3RS and the GT2 where someone pointed out the RS had a competition tire and the GT2 did not.

Riz,

You might want to look into the possibility of whether changes in GT racing classes since the 993 GT2 have not meant that there is no longer a category which the 996 GT2 slots into.

That raises an interesting point. Would the GT2 due to turbos or hp be taken into a higher catergory. Seems like the highly modified GT2s have posted up some good times. Could be wrong here though.

GT3 is certainly a much more accesible car than a GT2.
I chose an RS over a GT2 simply because I found the GT2 a little lacking in character. Devastatingly fast it may be (and it is, believe me) the GT3 was a screamer in comparison.

8200rpm redline and a manic scream from it's exhaust, I always felt the GT3 was always the racer at heart, and the GT2 the effortless Autobahn stormer.
