Default Dumb brake pad question

How is it that these little circular features on the brake pads do not make contact with the brake discs when one applies the brakes?

Those are positioned above the lip of the disc.

Default Brake Pad

Ah thank you. Actually I think I was mistaking part of the caliper for those ears I circled on the pads. And looks like I still have good pads.

Default Sway Bar End links-55,495 miles

Trying the lift bars for the first time.

She makes a loud clunk when the road surface has a an abrupt drop.

Steve Alarcon thinks it’s the Tarrett sway bar end links. Steve said call Ira and let him know I sent you.I did, spoke to Ira and received a set the next day.

Always had great customer service from Tarret.

Going to try to replace the set this long weekend.

Old and new -end links

One end is threaded the opposite way (by design unless I'm mistaken).

Installed-

I did not see anything that jumped out. Replaced them anyway since they do wear out.

5/28 - it was them! Steve was bang on. Much improved though once in a while still has the loud bang over bumps.

My last 996tt used to make a loud clank noise when hitting certain expansion joints. I always thought it was bearing from one of the shock mounts.

To me, that’s what I think the issue is. It’s a bit alarming, like something is being dropped.

Got a better look. One of the bushings is very worn and spins about the cavity. So maybe that is the culprit. Fingers crossed.

To identify clunking in front, open door and window down. Push down on door, ie use a lever arm while another person feels around the suspension parts. The culprit should have a feel that it got a light tap.

Thank you for the tip.

5/30 Update

Drove Miss Bee to work.
Looks like the end link replacement fixed the issue, no more loud bang on minor elevation changes as if a piano fell on the car.

I did go over a couple of large bumps and had and experienced similar- but different - more like shocks bottoming out kind of feeling.

6/9 - 100% fixed all the way. Setting the Motons to 2 clicks from full soft did the trick. Duh

Default Transmission and Engine Oil Change - 554950 miles

Well knowing what I know now after what started the adventure with Mr. Black I was able to quickly loosen the transmission oil fill and drain plug.

Looks like the oil is still in good shape. Anyone know what the green stuff might be?

It’s a Bill Rader refreshed tranny.

I have these from Porsche- I think. Purchased a couple of years ago. It’s kind of greenish.

Take that back it’s not greenish. Found the
order history from Sunset Porsche- purchased back in March 2022. Mobil Lube 75W90.

Purchased the Liqui Moly engine oil change kit from Pelican.

I would not recommend that Moly Gen stuff. I used it in my Cayenne Turbo and the burn rate was huge. Switched to the regular lightweight 5w40 and all was well. YMMV.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll watch it closely.

Interesting, I have always used the blue bottle lightweight 5w40 and had been thinking about switching to the Green bottle on the next change. Good to know.
