Default GT3 US production increased ???

i'm just bumping this out of the thread it showed up in:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...05#post1352587

we were originally told 750 cars would be coming to the US (right?).

cosmos tells us it's been upped to 900 - a 20% bump, this when the pent-up demand is largely filled and many dealers are ordering for stock and pre-owned cars are hitting the market.

we saw PCNA/PAG do this with the 996TT jumping from 2500 units to 4000 units (not including the cabriolet, i imagine). admittedly that was a 60% bump which materially impacted the secondary market. this is only a 20% bump, but given the state of demand it seems quite ill conceived. profit margin on these things must be very attractive .

they never said this was going to be a "limited production" car, but folks do make various financial decisions based on data.

so are they really upping production? for sure? by 20%?

curious to hear if this is accurate.

doody.

We know that there are builds allocated into the '05 model year. I'm curious if anyone on this board has the VIN ending in 750.

I wouldn't worry about it one little bit.

By way of example..Porsche couldn't give the RS America away in 93/94 and look at how the values have held. Extrapolate that information into the future and look at a pool of 950 GT3 cars (if that many) to go around all the autocrossers and track junkies over time. Not all the the good drivers can afford new cars so there will be strong interest in used versions.

I would never buy a car as an investment but the GT3 will most likely depreciate less than any other Porsche, except maybe the GT2 over 5 years. why, because those guys that can exhaust the abilities of the GT3 will want a GT2 and those with a GT2 that get in over their heads will prang them.

Just an opinion...in the meantime...driving a GT3 is an awful lot of fun.

Don't drive yourself crazy, others have already done it for you and made the decision.

Good luck.

oh, but driving myself crazy is what i do best

agreed - cars are not investments. but there are options out there - so the comparison is required.

and more production will likely mean some steeper short-term depreciation - so maybe that's fodder for negotiation on a new car price. all that jazz.....

The 750th car would have a VIN ending with 810. From what I know, they started with the first GT3 having the last four digits of 2061.

That would indicate the 624th (or 625TH, it confuses me) GT3 built. If it was built 4/29, then they should be about done with the run. There are two possibilities here: 1) They are almost done; there will only be 750 and no 2005. 2) They will make more than 750 and some may or may not end up being 2005's.

There were 200 confirmed GT3s for 2005. Now I hear it's 105, so who really knows, but there definitely is an 05.

The local dealer (Seattle) has confirmed September builds. Traditionally, cars built after the factories re-open carry the next MY designation.

Philip: Not sure about the final roduction numbers for 2004. We do have one GT3 car available for immediate delivery. It's Red/Black w/a $114,825 MSRP. We also have one December production slot for a 2005 car. We were allocated a total of (3) 2005 cars.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks.

If this is true, I imagine that the few 05's will truely be collectors cars. Philip

I think that is false......why if there is no change in the car why would it be a collectible vs. a similar 2004 year.

They will all get treated and valued equally.

I recall Viken posting that North American GT3s share VIN allocations with at least one market in South America so I don't believe #810 will be the 750th for NA.

That's correct. And, here's the thread in which I stated that.
