GT3 Front "Suspension" Clunk
My wife has been complaining about a clunk from the front suspension of her GT3. The dealer has been trying to fix it for months. They've changed all sorts of parts with no success.
Yesterday a local specialist, Ron Green of Campbell's Garage did a track alignment on her car. I mentioned the mysterious clunk to Ron and asked if he'd take a look.
He drove the car and observed that there was no "clunk" if the brakes were applied. The clunk happens where the car hits a dip or a bump except if the brakes are applied even slightly. Ron then looked at the brakes and noticed that the pads on the right front (where the clunk comes from) were quite free to move up and down in the vertical plane. The ones on the left would move but took some effort to do so. He bent the spring on top of the pads to get more pressure. Clunk sound fixed.
I figured I'd mention it here because this noise has been driving the dealer nuts since last fall!!!
I hope this helps someone else!

No problem, just an annoying sound. The fix is trivial though. Remove wheel ,pull the pin holding the pads in, remove flat spring. Bend spring to add tension. Re-assemble.

Thanks, Bob. I experienced this problem a while ago. While diagnosing it and checking everything I could think of, the problem just disappeared, I didn't do anything, it just magically stopped. I have been wondering ever since what it was. I think this must be it.

Ditto here, but i still get an occaional 'BOING!' from the front center underneath of the car. I have no idea what it is, but it sounds like a bed spring in the steering!

Maybe that's the problem I have now with the car.
B/c I just checked the eventual presence of the plastic stop bloc in the springs, but didn't find anything.
It's quite anoying though, with significant input in the steering aswel.

I believe the bong sound is the spring moving around on the perch.
I'm thinking you mean the shock spring here?
The spring that boings doesn't sound like a heavy suspension parts, it's a lighter 10-30lb range tension spring, and it seems to come from front center steering area rather than the shocks. I've never heard of a shock going boing, as they are always weighted by the car, even if they moved it would make a much shorter heavier sound. The sound I'm on about is one of a caught spring being freed, with a long resonance in the extended 'g'; boinggggggggg!

Yep, the shock spring. I haven't heard your sound, so I'm only speculating, but mine has made a bong with a resonance thru the cabin (sounds like something dropped on the tinny roof) - that sound is the springs. These cars lift a front wheel, unloading the spring, over most driveways, so I can easily see how this happens. Systems like the Pss9s have tender springs that prevent this.

That happens with PSS-9-equipped cars as well
Cure is thrust washers under the springs, if the noise becomes really irritating. Discussed at some length in this thread, which has links to a site with a video clip showing what happens: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...threadid=92941

Andrew: The "bong" sound I experienced (inside the car, it almost sounded like an out of tune guitar string being plucked ) was due to the springs moving on the perch. I had this sound coming from the rear left spring when I first took delivery of my GT2 -- the dealer's response was not to worry, GT cars make all kinds of weird noises. The first time I had my wheels off for a track wheel swap, I gave the plastic tubing wrapped around the spring coils a little shot of lubricant and the "bonging" sound was gone. FWIW.

The GT3 seems to be an entire orchestra of various creaks, rattles, moans, and groans.
My question is whether this musical serenade is restricted to the GT3 alone or is it prevalent in other Porsches, specifically the TT and GT2?
Thanks

The GT2 makes the same sounds. Same reasons as the GT3 - no sound deadening, monoballs. Sounds a lot like a race car heh heh.
