Interesting. I always thought that by stiffening the rebound, you speed up the time that the damper takes to extend, not the other way around. Happy to be corrected though! Obviously these Ohlins are not two way adjustable so bump and rebound have to increase together.

I have always though of the shocks as @Sirenty does.

When its stiff the compresion is tight(harder to compress) but so is the rebond so they r slower to extend. One of the limitations of a 1 way shock.

Stiffer rebound = slower extension of shock
Softer rebound = faster extension of shock

For example, if you find that you're car has a tendency to oversteer on initial turn in under braking, you would soften the rear rebound which in turn would improve grip on the inside tire at initiation of the turn thus reducing oversteer. Vice versa is true.

Single adjustable shocks severely limit what you can do with regards to tuning the suspension rendering them relatively useless in that regard. You really want want a 2-way shock with independent compression and rebound control, ideally you want a 3-way shock with independent high/low speed compression and independent rebound.
