Default Front caliper rebuild kits NLA from PMS

While replacing pads, discovered that the dust boots are toast. Also discovered two of the yellow pucks aren't attached to the pistons. The boots are still available, but Porsche Motorsports discontinued the rebuild kits that include seals, pistons, ceramic caps, and dust boots. It the caps are loose, do I need new pistons+caps?

I might be lucky. I still have left over parts from the last rebuild from a few years back.

No. The pucks are glued into the pistol and they detach with use. You attach the zircon pucks with the PM spider thingies.

The spiders are for the round pads that insert into the yellow pucks between them and the brake pads.

In other threads about this, there was a link to a high temperature bonding agent that could be used to "reglue" the pucks to the pistons.

I opted to go with Racing Brakes stainless pistons- https://racingbrake.com/996-1999-04-1/

If you track the car, the dust boots don't last, even the high temp ones. Just run without them and replace the seals every couple years.

Ok, you're talking about the cylindrical spiders that go through the pucks and the pistons? WTF are they for if the pucks are glued?

These PM retainers push in through the zircon puck into the piston and keep the two firmly attached without having to rely on glue which breaks down after being exposed to high heat. I use these on all my calipers. You need 20 per car. Your yellow zircon pucks will never come loose again.

For what it's worth, on my 2005, there were no spiders inside the pucks. I've only seen them on 2007 and newer.

These are a Motorsport item and they do not come on the calipers from the factory.

Do you have a picture or a diagram of these PM parts along with the rest of the caliper/piston parts? I'm having trouble visualizing how they all go together.

Pic is in post #7 above. The Zircon puck has a hole in the center of it and so does the piston. The "spider" retainer pushes into the piston through the Zircon puck. The the inner "spider" grabs the piston, the outer "spider" grabs the zircon puck.

Thanks. Are you aware of a good diagram or set of pictures that show the puck, seals, etc and how they are installed together? Sooner or later I think I'm going to want to rebuild my calipers and I want to get a better mental picture of what's in there (or what will be there when I'm done). My car has less than 40k miles on it, but it's 17 years old and has seen a number of track events, so a rebuild probably wouldn't hurt.

Also, do you have part numbers for the PM spider thingies shown in post #7?

Thanks again.

Unbelievably helpful!

I located the claw feet at Demon Speed and salesman says can be used with pistons with detached puck. How do you get the pucks back in? Pounding on them doesn't seem like a great idea. Use a press?

The pucks just fit on the pistons. There is no pressing in required. The claw feet can be used with the pucks detached or attached. It does not matter.
