Max: As FixedWing points out the PCCB hats ain't exactly made of Unobtanium as they're damned heavy and appear to be made of steel. I think the Brembo floating rotors use an aluminum hat which is why they're lighter than a conventional one piece iron rotor.
Heavy weight unobtanium??? I would have thought that PAG would have used a lightweigh hat along with their lightweight rotors. It's all moot though... The rebuilt rotors are just over $4000 each, not for all four. Granted that its half the price of new rotors, but still... 16K is nothing to sneeze at.
Z06: I'd seriously doubt that for the 4 lap format you describe you'd need any sort of additional cooling. Short of getting the front bumper of the GT3RSR and the associated brake cooling ducting I don't think there's anything prefabricated either.
Has anyone clarified the cost of the rebuilt PCCB brakes? Is it $4K each or per set of 4? I asked the Porsche Tech rep if these rebuilds were factory approved and he said no. There is some concern about damage to the ceramic rotor during reassembly. This is probably a slight risk but a big liability issue for Porsche Cars so their reaction is understandable. Meantime my steel rotors and rear calipers are on the way so my GT2 should be functional in time for spring - whenever that will be around here!

I verified the price and my understanding is the rebuilt rotors are ~50% less than the cost of new rotors... or $4K each instead of the $8K each. I do not think that just anybody would have the ability to rebuild PCCB brakes, yet alone without PAG's blessing.
Does anyone know why some places are selling the complete PCCB retrofit setup for $13,000 (I believe suncoast) that includes 4 rotors, calipers and pads, while other dealerships are trying to rip you off to the tune of $8k for one rotor?
brh986: Think of it like the drug trade. They offer you a free/low cost intro to get you hooked then really make you pay. And I'm not 100% certain but I believe the retrofit kit uses smaller rotors than found on the GT2 & GT3.
If you manage to get hold of a copy of the dealer product information booklet for the GT3 have a look at Page 19
The most intersting part comes under Key Benefits:

It certainly would seem like one would have a good case against Porsche and their voiding the warranty if tracked BS particularly for the GT2 and GT3. Buying these cars and never taking them on the track is just down right stupid. How could you reasonably (and legally) use these cars to their full potential without taking them on the track?
