The diameter may be the same but what about the thickness and offset?

Does a few mm mater?..............there seems to be allot of rotors that have
2-3 mm difference in width and or diameter.

There is a 1/4" difference in thickness between the front and rear iron rotors for a GT3 which I'd say matters. To expand on the other issue I mentioned the offset of the rotor from the hub may also be different. Twould would be important as the rotor might not be centered in the caliper and which would be bad as the GT3 calipers are fixed in position unlike some cars where the caliper slides when the brakes are applied.

The TT calipers & rotors are smaller than the GT3 calipers & rotors.

I have received this from a reliable source (whom I can not name):

1) Porsche does have different part numbers for the PCCB discs for 2005 GT3s. We all know the whole pattern is the same as before on the 05 cars (like mine), but the fact that there is a different part number indicates that they did do something to the discs, otherwise this would be a huge waste of money for a small company like Porsche. Unfortunately, these "new part number" discs are still $8K/disc. My source did not know what the difference is between the two.

2) My source confirms that Porsche is now offering PCCB discs on an exchange basis. Now this may mean two things: They are reusing the hats, or they have figured out a way to rebuild/recoat the disc. My guess is that they are reusing the hats. I don't have pricing info on this.

Now, after all the reading I did over the last couple of days, it does look like switching to steels for track use is the way to go unless the PCCB pricing drops to $1K/disc or close to that.

Having not driven a GT3 with steel rotors, I have no data point to compare, but I have to say the PCCBs feel great in initial bite compared to my other Porsche (also with fixed caliper 4 piston brakes).

Can someone check the list price of option (2) above?

check the recent postings - the 2005 pccbs are gen2 and greatly improved

no one knows if they work on the track. given all the hubbub i would bet they work well

also, the 2005 997 gt3 cup car (which is currently getting ready to race in euro supercup) has pccb gen 2 ceramics 380mm front 350mm rear

What is not known (or hasn't been made clear yet) is if the 05 GT2/3 use the new material. The change in part number MIGHT mean that is new material but I would like confirmation.

What is known is that on the 05 GT3 is that the disc pattern has not changed. The 997 has a different pattern and new material, and I don't remember about the 996 Turbo S

I have seen the 2005 GT3 (Nov build) and it had the old pattern disc, I thought I had pointed that out (sorry). I seem to remember now that the 996 turbo S had the new pattern.

To clarify: Does the old pattern disc on the GT3 have the new material for 05?

With all due respect, I have a 2005 GT3 sitting in my garage (11/04 build) and the hole pattern looks nothing like the hole pattern of the 997 PCCB discs.

Colm, I keep digging on this, I have another contact that has good relations with Porsche NA and he insists that all 05 GT3s must have the 2nd gen PCCB material.

I think the best way to find out is to put an 04 PCCB disc, an 05 PCCB disc and a 997 PCCB disc under a microscope and see if we can spot the difference.
