So, I do love my ‘6 a ton. Over 20k miles driven and a bunch of track days over the past 5 years.
I also see lots of talk comparing with the 991. But, does the 997.2RS offer a sweet spot between the analogue 996 and the supercar weapon 991?
Manual, Metzger, in similar numbers to the 996...
example just on BAT: 45k mile driver with all the goodies (white under the wrap..). Maybe a non-statospheric price??

Just some quarantine musing!
Love to read the thought of any who have been in both!

I think you are right about where it sits, if you want that analog feel. However, last time I saw some price trends, the 997.2 RS was astronomical compared to the 991 RS.
I guess enough people think it is the holy grail of the club.

I think the 997.2 RS is the best of them all but it’s also twice the price of a 6GT3

Hello, I do not post much but I am on here often. I purchased a 996 gt3 in 2005 and took delivery of a 997.2 rs in 2011. I still own the 6 gt3, sold the 7.2 rs in 2017. I have been pca club racing the 6 gt3 since 2007 in the stock class and still race it today. I cant see myself every getting rid of this, I love the seat of your pants feel while driving a well developed 6 gt3. I did take the 7.2 rs on the track a hand full of times and really liked it but not as much as the 6 gt3. To be fair though my 6 gt3 suspension is very well developed and the 7.2 rs was stock. My driving is track driving, not street, so for me the 6 gt3 has a better racey feel. If I was doing a lot of street driving and some de's once in awhile, I would probably lean toward the 7.2 rs. For a mostly track car, the 6 gt3 is a tough on to beat for fun factor.

Same. I would love to own a 997.2 GT3 as I think its' probably the best of the best, but it doesn't justify twice the price of the 996 GT3 to me. That being said I would probably keep the 996.2 GT3 over a .1 997 simply because of the simpleness and rawness of the 6.

FWIW, I have driven them all but the 992. If the money to 7.2RS is too much of a stretch I understand. That said, there is no better time to get in than now. A good driver 7.2RS can now be had for 140Kish. Probably down 20-30 grand from the high point 5 years ago. I think they are 90% as raw as a 6GT3 but much more updated. The updated interior the extra HP/aero all matter. Mostly the wider track makes the most difference. And I assure you if you are comparing apples to apple suspension wise the 7.2 RS will eat it's lunch. That said, I really do understand the charm of the 6GT3.

The 997 is not that much larger than the 996. Very similar proportions except the 7 has a wider body, particularly in RS form. The difference is nothing like 997 to 991 though.

The 991 GT3RS is a behemoth 4-5 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than a 7 GT3RS. They also weigh significantly more than either the 6 or 7. Only a 10kg difference between 6 and 7.
I've owned a 6 GT3 and a 7.1 GT3RS, have driven 7.2, 991.1, and 991.2 GT3s/RSs. Imho a well set up 6 GT3 feels great; however, a properly set up 7 GT3RS feels even better in every way.
Sure the 991s are faster, more capable; but also not as fun. If I were still racing I would undoubtedly want a 991 Cup/GT3R/RSR; however, for the great majority of drivers (imho) its more about the experience, the feel, the connection. My choice is the 997 GT3RS.

Ok guys, I'll chip in fwiw. I bought my Manthey 410 996.2 GT3 about 2 years ago mainly for track driving. I have had both a 997.1 and .997.2 GT3 both of which I loved. I have to confess however that after I first bought my 996 I really wasn't feeling the love with it-the setup/ geometry was just not right and it eventually took 3 geometry setups and fiddling with springs to get right(car has KW Clubsports on). In addition to the Manthey 410 upgrade (which is basically a lighter exhaust, different air induction, and retune), and KW Clubsport, I've had the shorter final drive installed. Car has a a CF front bonnet and a GT2 rear hatch as well.
I have a pretty aggressive camber setup on my car with negative 3.5 at the front and 3.0 at the back-however I have not widened the tracks and apart from the rear toe links all the other suspension is OEM. I usually run slicks at tracks, and I have to say the car is stunning and now will run very similarly to a 997.2RS . However as others have mentioned the "organic" feel of the 6 GT3 is something else and I absolutely love my car as it gives me immeasurable pleasure. If you add on to that the relative low price compared to a 997.2 RS then this is unquestionably a fantastic bargain of a car.
And for those who are interested in how it compares to a 997.2 RS here is a comparison lap of my car with a 997.2 RS which is also running slicks, passive suspension and a few aero mods on a relatively short circuit in France. Ok the 997 is carrying a passenger however as you can see not much in it. Perhaps on a higher powered circuit the 997 would have edged away due to its higher powered engine, however in the twisty bits, not much in it. Both drivers btw I would say are advanced level too, so fair comparison.
