Default Best exhaust for 996 GT3?

There's a pattern occurring every single year. I "cheat" on my hibernating 6gt3 by ogling RS's then fall right back deep in 6gt3 love after the first spring back-road jaunt. As I anticipate the same this spring, I am wondering how I can make my 6gt3 sound even better while making it lighter in the rear too. It has the OEM exhaust now.

What's the RL brain-trust's TL;DR (summary; consensus) on the best after-market exhaust for the 996 GT3? It's solely for fun on back-roads, 30min-2hr runs -- no daily driving, maybe a track-day every few years to stretch its legs, as I have a race car for that. Thx in advance!

I have been running muffler bypass pipes for years. They’re great. It’s loud and obnoxious. Aka - perfect

Good to know, thx. I asked about that in the other thread. Do you have a video/audio of the sound by any chance? I may not mind the loudness as I use the 6gt3 only for relatively short backroad squirts out in the boonies. No DD or long highway trips. Would be like a stiff single malt.

Not sure of mic location, that is customer supplied video. It seems some is rear bumper and some is interior.

I second this!! Best decision. I have a video but it doesn't do it justice. Really have to hear in person. AKA- louder than video

A few start up vids. I have some track vids also. Let me know if you want to hear those. Inside cabin isn’t bad at all. You can have a conversation while driving on the road.

Thanks! That sounds loud even at idle. A cabin video would be great.

Just remembered that I already have straight pipes in my SPB and that I must wear ear plugs during races even with a helmet on. The few times when I forgot the plugs, it wasn’t pretty and my ears were hurting — but probably a lot of the noise has to come from the other SPB’s around me, too.

How’s your hearing, btw? 😀

GT3 doesn't have straight pipes, it's just a catback. It's no where near SPB loud. Might be hard to believe, but my SPB was WWAAAYYYY louder. I got sound carded a few times over the 117db mark from around 100 feet away. Crazy, stooopid loud.

The GT3 is tame on the track compared to the SPB. My R8 is also much louder than the GT3, and it's totally drivable on the street, even with the top down.

Super fun video from a few years ago. There are a bunch on my channel. I stopped posting them a while ago, so they're all pretty old. But, other than camera upgrades, my setup hasn't changed in like 10 years

I only have a few vids of my SPB, but here's one from the Cresson club race when my transmission let go. lol. Good for sound clip mostly.

Great video and driving, thx! That 991 was parking it in the turns. Common downside of getting into too much HP too soon.

Also thx for clarifying the noise level diff from SPB. No way I could survive my SPB on the street without earplugs and a helmet.

Loved the sound on the video -- and that was just with muffler bypass pipes? Which product exactly?

Fabspeed. But they're all the same. It's like a 18" turn pipe with a tip.
