Stick Or Tiptronic What Do You Preffer?

At 54 I'm leaning towards a tip due to a bad back & traffic. Every time I get stuck in it with my hot rod speedster (replica) I hate it!

This thread really does bring up good points for both tip or stick.
Myself and many friends are in late 50s, we all grew with muscle cars.
Back then, the rule of law:
REAL MEN USE 3 PEDALS
Now after 6 knee surgeries and torn rotocuf, I would welcome a PDK, my friends however think a Porsche with an automatic is not a real Porsche.
Note: Most of them can be found on the evolution chart, 3rd from the left .
If there was a way to put a PDK in my 996, I would do it.
Every track day when those pdk cars go screaming by and then the down shifting just cannot be matched.

I think that's a pretty good way of saying it. I prefer a manual transmission in a sports car.
In my argumentative mind the debate goes something like this...."it doesn't take much driving skill to push down on the go pedal and let the car do all the shifting, but OTOH being a skilled driver is MORE than just shifting gears. It's really about being the fastest around the track so who really cares if you can row the gears or not?"

Doing a fast reference to Adrian Streather's book, ZF manufactured the tip S for the 3.4 996s. But the turbo model contract when to Daimler Chrysler (except for GT2. The Daimler Chrysler went on all the cars starting with the 3.6 engines.

Yes your right , no transmissions in either top fuel funny car or dragster. Multi clutch setup is the way it's done to put power to the tires, although they do have a reverse gear

For what it's worth my old M3 was an automatic. And while you could put it in sport mode and change the gears, it just wasn't fun at all. I certainly prefer a stick. Even when living in San Diego with my Boxster and experiencing the monotony of SoCal traffic every day to and from work or especially on trips up to visit family in LA, I knew as soon as I hit some canyons putting up with a stick in traffic would be worth it. But more and more I'm coming over to the dark side of the idea of PDK....

I was told the 3.6L 996 had the Mercedes tiptronic...?
