What are the chances...
Of having a M96-04 in a C4 that was built in 3/99 ? I'm thinking it's a replacement motor, but I'm really not sure. I didn't think the M96-04 revision happened before 2000... I'm thinking that the original engine failed, and one of the previous owners found the current engine used and replaced the original...

^^^The fact that it's a M96-04 which supposedly didn't come into existence 'til around 2000. My car has a build date of 3/99. Also, my car has 2 LNE IMSR stickers/tags on it. The lower of the two serial #'s being produced in 2011 and the higher in 2013. My hypothesis is that the second owner of the car (I'm #4) who used it as a daily/frequent driver for a number of years, was having problems with the original engine (IMSB failure) and replaced the failing(failed) bearing only to have debris from the original bearing take out the engine shortly thereafter. Upon finding a replacement engine (the current M96-04) he had the IMSB (which happened to be a Dual row) replaced with a LNE Classic Dual Row retrofit prior to installing - hence the second sticker/tag (this bearing was manufactured in 2013). It seems like he traded the car in to The Porsche Exchange (Highland Park Ill. - whom he had originally gotten it from) within a year or two of doing that second bearing. Unfortunately the previous owner of the car wasn't able to get the service records from the dealership even though they claimed the car had been serviced there for years... Hence my attempt to reconstruct it's history from Carfax records and speculation (the carfax shows a fair amount of service, but no engine replacement...)

Unless Porsche replaced the engine with an older model? Any evidence of that?
