Why can't I have this...
LS3 430 HP $6,750.99. Haven't priced Renegade for install/conversion cost, but...probably similar to an RND installed. Afterwards then if the LS blows drop in another $6,750 engine and drive off. I know it would be a FRANKENPORSCHE, and probably kill future resale, but I could care less. The last sports car I bought before the C4S was in 1994 and I still own it. Chevy parts so no "Porsche price premium". 100+ more horsepower. No IMS. Simpler AOS(?). Water pump should last more than three years. Again if LS3 it fails $6,750!!
My car is starting to "tap" on passenger side so probably scored even though I haven't scoped it yet and car grew up in Houston so shouldn't be cold related. Considering this option, if needed. Serious comments appreciated.

I have limited knowledge of the US market (basically what I read on here) but surely those figures would get you a 996/997 turbo?
Although I do see the point you're trying to make about cost vs reliability

At 30k + the price your 996 is currently worth wouldn't you be in turbo town?

Yeah, definitely would be in Turbo range, but...turbo charged engines, especially high performance, brings on another whole different set of possible failures and possible much higher additional costs including maintenance. I am happy with my car just wondering if in-kind engine replacement, if needed, is smart or are other options more attractive.

Meh, $30K to have them do all the work. I'm betting I could do it for much less. I'm a long time hot rodder and have done many different engine swaps.
This is my plan should my engine ever blow up. Right now, I am replacing the water pump & thermostat, doing a 60K service, RMS, probably do coolant tank and maybe AOS as preventative maintenance items (gambling on leaving the original dual row IMSB). It got me thinking, maybe I should just yank the motor now and sell it while it still has value and replace it with an LS motor as a PM measure!
The inmates hear talked me off the ledge on that one so I'm leaving the original engine in and driving the wheels off it, but if it blows...I'm going LS.

Here's mine if your thinking of doing it yourself. I've got about 10k miles on it and love it for so many reasons. Cost to mr was about 25k total, car and engine.
