I bought my 03 with only 41k miles and a lms failure. Sold the dead engine for $1k.
Now it has a 09 LS2 ,kennedy adapter and flywheel,GM performance harness and ecu. I did all of the fab on the mounts and exhaust. Total cost so far (still need to do the power steering) is way less than 20k including the car!
I can be done cheaper than a used m96 if you can do it yourself.
No it's not. I know of several over the years that have had their headers deteriorate well before they should have...Now if it's a garage queen or show car, you'll have nothing to worry about!

someone always knows someone that did something. I have personally been running exhaust wrap for decades and have NEVER had an issue...
