IMSB question and pictures

That NSK 6204DUA17 is the original I had the same dual row in my 2000 Tip I removed mine due to lots wobble and metal shavings inside of seal section of IMSB shaft after 100K miles & 16 years later. The build date of my 996 was (9/99).

How many KM's have you put on the new bearing since?

I got the EPS Roller bearing with the oil feed as the replacement and barely 1,200 Miles on it. Not much as far as trend analyst data, just enjoying the ride as I keep watching the miles rack up on the odometer.

To answer dKraige's original question I think gnat did it with his post and the picture. If you look at the picture he posted you will notice a difference in the part numbers pertaining to the depth of the bowl. If you look at the Porsche PET also you will see the different part numbers listed 99610502401 and 99610501702. Unfortunately mine was similar to MiataR's IMSB cover as the original one did not have any recognizable part number markings what so ever.

would be nice to hear from you long term. everyone here says once metal is found in the filter, nothing can fix it other than a full tear down, cleaning & rebuild.

That is in effect what I actually did. A complete engine tear down and inspection, a thorough cleaning of all associated parts, replacement of wear items and then re-assembled. It took 6 months but glad I did it.
