Depends on what you like. Do you want something very short, or do like the stock shifters in your GT4s? I thought the B&M that came installed in my wife's car had every bad trait a shifter could have. It was short, but slow, rough, and notchy. Just replaced it with the 997 GT3 part, and that shifter feels close to perfect. Although the B&M may have not have been installed properly. When we took it out it out there were aluminum flakes peppered around the mechanism.

It would be interesting to read a comparison of the GT3 with Ben's short shifter. There is a huge difference in price but that is obvious. The difference in function and feel is what intrigues me

For daily use, I've gone back to the stock long dong and have gotten along fine with it.
For track use, I absolutely love my Numeric.

Another "opinion" ...
Function First brand...with their "Classic" shift **** option. Love both.
Function First brand **** (sittting on top of their shift kit for Porsche 911/996). Very nice...

After doing a whole bunch of research on this topic, I ended up getting a 997 OEM shift console (shorter throws), the Function First metal bearing kit (more precise shifting), and the Function First classic shift ****.
Then I procrastinated on installing all of it for 9 months and I still dislike the stock shifter feel. Moral of the story? Whatever you buy, make sure it makes it into the car sooner rather than later.

I bought a 997 shifter off ebay and then some billet shift bushings from Phenix Engineering. Overall it's a pretty decent setup, no increase in notchiness, slightly shorter throws, more precise gates. It's a far cry from the short shift kits that make it feel more like a snickety-snickety miata shifter, but it works.
The "loose in the roots" feeling is still present to some extent, though not as bad and it no longer bothers me when actually driving.
