Back in the 70's when I was a Chrysler mechanic, we kept a bucket of sand with a filter underneath into which we'd pour old oil. It would eventually filter down thru the sand and become quite clean. At least, in appearance.
We'd never use it in a customer's car, but if anyone needed something for a lawnmower or other lower-value item, it was there for them. Some "customers" (more friends of other mechanics) who were short on $$$ would also use it in their older cars, especially if it was an oil-burner, with full knowledge of what it was and from where it came.
And this was when GOOD oil was <$1/quart.

I'm sure I could get a couple takers for my "old" air that was in my tires. Anybody want to join forces? Join up fee is $10K and I'll do all the work. In return you will be first to get future "old" air.
