Just replaced my " DUAL ROW" @ 103,000, bearings were going, race was trashed, tube had metal in it.

If the dual row IMS is gold plated, I'll take it! I've always wanted to be in the Gnat club!

The bearing on the duel row would need to be changed but the shaft is perfect. The single row shaft are scarce and it has an ln bearing. I don't think some people realise the shaft and bearing are not the same part

That or your original post may have been a bit vague. The shaft obviously has more value than a used bearing.

Metal was contained in just the tube( very small amount) no metal in block ,just some small amounts of plastic.

Tell you what, let me get a guy in here who really knows these IMS bearings and see what he says, is that cool?

(later)

Sorry, best I can do is three bucks. I mean, a few years ago the IMS market was hot, but it's really cooled off now. Plus, I got overhead. I don't know how long this thing is going to sit on the shelf.

What we have here ladies and gentlemen is the beginnings of a "My LN bearing failed!1!1!!" thread. The only real question will be if por944trs is the unlucky one or if whomever buys it next gets to roll snake eyes

por944trs, you have fine debris throughout your motor. When you find a failed bearing (and yours was failed, not failing) the only answer is to tear it down and have it cleaned properly. There are lots of little crannies in the oil path where debris gets stuck only to finally come free at some random time in the future. There is no way a certified LN installer would have put that bearing in your car.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this has unfortunately shown to be true

You could very well be right, but Im not new this game, nor to porsche's. I made the decision not to rebuild, and am not overly concerned with what I saw. I bought this car knowing full well what it might or not be. And to be fair, have an extra motor, and master porsche techs in my immediate family. I have a little skin to lose , but not as much as some others. So I'll roll the dice and see what I get. And you were right to correct me, the bearing had failed, no matter how early in the stage of failure.

^^. Keep us updated. I will be interested to hear how it holds up. Probably even deserves it's own thread.

and I was just getting to respect you.

sigh,

Just a suggestion here, but you may want to invest in a full flow no-bypass filter system, mag drain plug and go on short drain intervals for a bit. Or - not, I guess.
