Default FilterMag?

I'm about to order LN's spin on filter and drain plug.

They also show a FilterMag but I can't figure out what it does or where it goes. Here is their description:

The SS Series of FilterMAG is geared towards the oil filtration needs of light duty automotive, light truck and imported motorcycle applications. The SS Series will fit virtually any light duty vehicle on the market. Filter size range: 2.90" - 3.40" The perfect add-on for use with our Spin On Filter Adapter! Approximate Pull Force 90 lbs.

Can anyone explain what this does and where does it get installed?

Thanks.

I think it attaches to the outside of the filter

Bash Hat is correct (this style of magnet can only go one way)
FWIW, I have one along with the magnetic drain plug and filter adapter.

Just 'attaches' to side of oil filter....don't throw it out with filter replacement!

OK, I get it now. It's a magnet that sticks to the outside of the filter. Duh!

I was thinking it was some kind of additional filter.

Not sure if it is worth the extra $50 but what the heck, any extra protection can't hurt. I'll order one along with the spin on kit.

Thanks.

Like everyone's said. Just get it. It's a bug magnet that attaches to the new oil filter housing that attracts any metal fragments that are going through the filter. Keeps it in there. It's like having a additional magnetic oil drain plug, just much bigger.

Does it screw onto the filter? If I'm seeing this right what keeps oil from seeping out of the screw holes under pressure?

No, there are no screws. The magnets that attract debris circulating in the oil filter also adhere the FilterMag to the outside of the filter cartridge.

Supposedly, the oil drain plug magnet is only strong enough to pick up some crap so adding the oil filter mag (with BIGGER magnets) will augment/supplement the drain plug (pic below swiped from the net)
