exhaust was blowing a bit around the headers so i am currently drilling out all the bolts and retaping to put new gaskets in.

Any recommendations on exhausts?
Nice drive, the N59...been on that very road quite a few times. I used to live on that side of the country (in Carrick-on-Shannon). The loop towards Delphi, Louisburgh and then on to Westport is brilliant drive, if you haven't driven it yet. One of my favorite road pictures I took was on that drive, matter of fact:

As for exhaust recommendations, Fabspeed seems to be quite popular around here, although I'm sure you'll be able to find a good number of options online. A lot of guys here are quite helpful...am sure you'll get a few suggestions.

Best of luck!

Yikes! That isn't going to pass the NCT, I don't think. Or have you gotten it done already?

Won't have to worry about that for a few months.....50 euro later and it's all sorted.

The wheels are a nice, modernizing touch. I initially thought it was a 991 due to the wheels and the dark car color. We traveled your way a couple of years back and envied those with 911s and similar vehicles (from our motor coaches).

That's fantastic. I grew up on the east coast of Scotland. I remember roads and views like those!

My wife took a position at Trinity College, so we're relocating to Dublin. Anyone in Ireland on this thread willing to give me some advice about what cars we want there, and whether I want to bring the GT4? I understand that I'd not have to pay import duties or VAT, but could the CO2 emission of the GT4 of 238 g/km really attract an annual road tax of €2,350?

Road tax is based on the engine displacement; don't bring a Viper!

You're correct about the import duties. If you've owned the car for over a year, you won't have to pay it.

Insurance is pretty dear as well. If you're there long enough, get a proper (full) Irish license. But be prepared. It isn't the joke of a process Americans get to go through here...definitely more thorough.

If you bring the GT4, definitely bring Hoosier wets!

!
Vehicles after 2008 are based on Co2 emissions. so the 2,000 road tax per year is correct. Hence none in this country.

MY advice would be don't bring a GT4 here you most likely will not get insurance on it and if you do it will be very expensive.

there is 23% vat and 33% import duty or VRT as we call it.

you should find the details on the revenue.ie website as I say look up VRT.
I was sure it was only European citizens could avail of not paying the tax.
From memory there are a lot of conditions and red tape to get through.

porsche club Ireland and forum maybe worth looking at
www.porsche-club-ireland.ie

we are an active enough bunch with plenty of trips to the uk for track days and a few of our own track days here too.

Agreed on the insurance. It might be a challenge to get a reasonable quote on a GT4 without driving history there. If you're going for <= a year I'd consider mothballing it.
