Default New to 996- bearing questions

Looking to purchase a 996 and have heard of the Bearing issues. Can some one direct me to the threads that explain what it is. Also is their something you can do to prevent it from occurring? Can you replace before at a reasonable cost? Please excuse my rookie questions, but want to make a good choice as to what to consider

Thanks!

New here ain't cha.

Lots to read.

Start here I guess:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...his-first.html

Visit here:

http://flat6innovations.com

and click around.

And here:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...ft_Bearing.htm

and click around. The link above is to a Boxster engine article. The intermediate shaft bearing (IMSB) failure is shared between the Boxster and 996 engines.

For which "solution" is best you'll have to do your research. What's a reasonable cost to have whatever solution you choose fitted is only something you can decide once you have an estimate.

Just because I put the effort into making this, but haven't had a chance to use it in awhile:

And might as well post this one too:

The topic is nuanced enough that it's best to accept that you'll have to read up on it and form your own opinion given your situation.

I'm new here too and this is good advice. Some engines will never need the bearing replaced. Replacing it could also be a waste of money for certain engines. Jake Raby here is probably the foremost expert on these engines. Search his posts.
