Default Aloha From The Newbie!

Not looking like to many Hawaiians on board.
Anyway, I found one that I like but would like some opinions as this will be my first P car. I've spent hours, scratch that, days reading up on all things 996 and was almost scared away by the M96 issues...

As I got to the more recent information on these issues it's not looking so bleak.
I've always had a soft spot for Gold 911's and found this

One red flag is that air filter!

Sounds like a good deal for $13k... except the owner is a little sketchy to me and is full of sh*t.

That's exactly my feeling as I read through his ad...Problem is that this car is on a different island and I would have to fly over, have a PPI done and then ship it to Kauai. But doable for the right car and price.

Looks to me like he/she was more interested in the stereo than the condition of the car. Witness the air filter! Holy Crap! If that wasn't changed what other Important maintenance was deferred? "Windows, a/c, sunroof"...leads me to believe car was not well cared for...This would all make me very nervous!

Needs a roof rack so you can get your board to Pine Trees.

"You can shift much faster with a Tiptronic than you can with a 6-speed - why do you think everybody who races these uses Tiptronics???" pretty sure this guy sells snake oil on the side...

I've spent a lot more time surfing snow than water but Hanalei Bay is one of my favorites.

You definitely want to find a trusted mechanic to go through this one prior to purchase. Lots of red flags that this guy doesn't know what he's talking about but I imagine the selection of 996's is a bit sparse over there.

Hey Bill. Born and raised on Oahu! Flying back to visit family for the holidays next week.

I would pass on this car. I think you'd be better off buying a car in Washington or California and shipping it. Too many red flags...like the oil he keeps in the car, the filter, the plywood structure in the frunk, different tires..

Is he a pilot or does he like Pilates? For 13k who cares if anything is wrong with it, that's a steal.

The proper way to approach these vehicles is to treat it like a $20k engine in a $6K car. You can find good deals and get in for far less money than that with a solid vehicle of course. My personal belief is that everyone driving one of these should be prepared to step out of it for the cost of a roller or be ready to invest in an engine rebuild. If you've considered both those options, then you can actually fully enjoy the best value 911 out there.

Hey Bill. I think the car looks stunning in that colour, and for $13K - yea, sounds like a steal. So, maybe it has some deferred maintenance but as long as the engine runs well I think it's worth the investment it needs. You should be prepared to spend at least $5K right away. A PPI will tell you a lot more.

Welcome! Offer him $10k and do the maintenance it needs, remove all the crap in the frunk and that awesome custom sub box install, and put a new engine in it!
