Default Window Problem - Window automatically kicks back up with door open

I have an issue where when you pull the handle (both external or internal) the window will go down, but as soon as you let go of the handle it pops back up. It as if it thinks the door is closed. In other words when the door is open the window is in full up position. This makes it impossible to close the door as it doesn't drop to clear the seal. I currently have to manually lower the window an inch or so and leave it down there.

I searched the threads and only finds posts relating to issues where the window doesn't go down enough or down at all nothing about it going back up.

It is one of the door microswitches - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-switches.html

Either that or the regulator.

Not clear.

With the door closed the window should drop if either handle is pulled. This is a sign the door handle switch is working.

If you do not pull hard enough on the handle to open the door but instead release the handle the window should go up again. This is a sign the door latch switch is working.

If you pull on the handle enough to open the door the window should stay down. This is also a sign the door latch switch is working.

If the window goes up again *if* the door is opened in my experience this is a problem with the door lock controller. However, my car (2002 Boxster) manifested other symptoms besides the window going up again once the door was open.

Thus if the only odd behavior is the window going up once the door is open this is a sign the door latch switch is bad.

That post was very helpful. It is indeed the only problem so I would assume as you say it is the "door lock switch" / "door lock controller" if they are the same thing. Typing those into google only result in a cable switch which I belive is a different part. Can you help with a part number? Thanks

Both sides do this on my 986 Boxster, it is the switch in the door lock assembly. As a workaround, I roll the windows down a little and when I get out, I lock the doors with the key and hold it a few seconds and windows go up. When unlocking I use the key and hold it a few seconds and the windows drop. It is a hassle but it keeps the window from.hitting.

some folks have had success removing the lock assembly and cleaning and lubricating the microseitch.

If you got the idea the door lock switch and door lock controller are the same things that is a mistake on my part for not being clearer.

They are not the same thing.

The door lock switch is a relatively inexpensive switch. The door lock controller is a rather large and complex electro-mechanical enclosure with some smarts in it and of course is more expensive.

You missed my observation that the problem was probably related to the door *latch* switch.

To repeat if the window drops when either handle is pulled but refuses to stay down once the door is actually open this is a sign the door *latch* switch is bad. It is failing to signal the door is open thus the window is raised as if the door were closed.

My Boxster has had the door lock controller/assembly replaced, some switches, and both window regulators (and more recently both door membranes these keep water out of the dry side of the door).

I do not know the part numbers for the various parts. My source of parts numbers for parts I'm interested in is my local Porsche parts department. The parts department employee can look up the latest part number -- sometimes parts numbers change as Porsche discontinues an older part and replaces it with a newer part -- and supply me with a price, too.

The Pelican web site may have the part number. Whether the part number is current or not I don't know.

With the door open try to move the latch a little bit and see if the window drops down and stays down. There is a micro switch integral to the latch that fails. Remove the latch and inspect the switch. The switch will have a metal retaining clip. If the window drops with the exterior handle but fails to stay down after the door is open, inspect the latch micro switch first. I have replaced many latches for this issue.

There's an RL member who has figured out how to just replace the microswitches. @Yogibara
