Yeah, because the producer who asks him to do the same thing 8 times to get the shot just right absolutely wouldn't wind up with a .45 in the chest...

Jake, I would die to see you on Velocity, with a show on your own, about Porsche rebuilds.

Didn't realize he was making that much coin off the show.
Someone walk me through the math...

He makes $50k an episode... $600k a year... Peanuts after taxes/agent fees, etc.

He builds cars, where it looks like he doesn't make a lot of money...

He has a dragster that loses money...

He has a monster truck that loses money...

He has a restaurant that loses money...

So, how does he make his money exactly? Does he make it selling cars? I don't see any branded merchandise being sold in stores...

How do you get to 15mm?

Kind of makes me wonder what the Side kick Aaron is worth...

Hell No! The first day one of those TV clowns would **** me off, and I'd end up in jail.

I watch maybe 10 minutes of TV a week. I went so long without turning it on that the satellite box had to be reset. I have enough drama and adversity dealing with business, development, and people, I don't need to watch that crap on TV! I have constructive things to do, like teaching my 4 year old what she'll need to survive in the real world.

B3Freak, Those same people contacted us about using some land in White County for their show. Based on my prior experience, we told them to go to hell. Looks like it was a wise decision!

The show would be R rated anyway, and we'd shoot big guns, and blow things up. A good example is this M96 that pissed me off a few weeks ago. Not much left, and it will never punish anyone, ever again! I found one cylinder head almost 100 yards away, half of the block was embedded 40' up an oak tree.

C'mon, nothing that a little Crazy Glue, smoke and mirrors can't fix.

Amazon returns nearly 1,500 results for the search term "gas monkey garage," so SOMEBODY is making and selling swag. Assuming at least some of it is legally licensed, that's revenue coming in for every item.

Rawlings is riding the wave of popularity, like the Duck Dynasty folks did before. Assuming he doesn't do anything to screw up the show (like Honey Boo Boo's mom), the register will keep ringing. They even came out with some god-awful Fireball-like liquor - I think it was cinnamon tequila.

I'm not a Richard fan, but the guy was obsessed with getting the brand publicized from early on in the show - he's now reaping the rewards of that work making the brand recognizable.

As an aside, assuming the $15MM is net worth including the garage, the restaurant, his car collection, and anything else that is tangible personal property, you can get to $15MM pretty quickly. There are plenty of paper millionaires who couldn't raise $50K if they had to. I'm not suggesting Rawlings is one of those, but there's an enormous difference between being worth $15MM and having $15MM in liquid assets.

Binary explosive, black powder, or other?

Fun stuff. There are not many things I miss about Texas; being able to blow stuff up and shoot all day without a visit from the SWAT team is one of 'em.

Hahaha. Hey, I am in the same category coming close to get rid of TV altogether.
Now, in all seriousness, you should consider this. Me, I am obsessed with cars but find Velocity almost unwatchable, it’s like rednecks rule the World: Dallas Car Sharks, Junkyard Empire and all that #@%. It is depressing and annoying. The only shows I found tolerable are “Chasing Classic Cars” (for the occasional old 356’s ), “How it’s Made - Dream Cars” and …pretty much that’s it. And “Wheeler Dealers” (Edd China is great, Mike Brewer is a clown imho) but their shows too got a little weird since they moved the operation to the US. Speaking of “Wheeler Dealers”, you should start your own show by hiring their cameraman & crew.

NO WAY!
Hell, as it is I just want to be in the middle of a 50 acre field working all alone...The whole "image" thing to me seems like nonsense. I don't even want to put my name on my own book!

Well, I do watch some of the shows for fun. People need to look at them merely as entertainment unless it is a true documentary and even then be skeptical. I've done some consulting and helped with parts for the Dung Beetle on Street Outlaws.........Trust me.......it's merely entertainment for the car guy. No more....No less........The few races early on that occurred on a public street with on coming traffic got the producer fired. Everything now is in a controlled environment. Tke TV with a grain of salt.......

I actually like Richard from what I've seen on the show, I actually wouldn't watch it if it wasn't for him haha.

As for his assets no idea, but as many people have said product placement I'd say it plays a big part. I also think he commands a premium because he's build his brand well and people will pay for something his shop has made.

One does need to remind themselves of the TV glitz the show does have though compared to others.

Wheeler dealers is and always will be my favourite car show though.
