PPI for 996TT in Mclean VA area
#4
IMA is in Chantilly (15-20 miles from McLean). Ivan is a good guy and knows his Porsches.
There is also Intersport in Tysons/McLean, but while they are "the" Porsche Indy in the area I don't recommend them. For a PPI they are probably OK though (while I think they shaft their customers, I expect a higher than average cost would be the only issue for a PPI).

I don't think it's right to come on here and trash a shop based on a couple of mediocre experiences and a handful of scuttlebutt. So I didn't say anything about Intersport in my post.

Many have complained about their ability to run up the bill for a simple service up considerably by finding other things and then doing the hard sell to have them done while they are there. I've never heard someone question the validity of these extras, just that it's a challenge to get out of there for under $1500.
There is more that I've heard from ex-employees, but while they fit the patterns I have to account for potential animosity so I don't repeat those claims.
The one that gets me the most, however, is how they treated a friend when she sold them her 993. They took advantage that she trusted them (they were the only ones to touch the car for 15 years) and that because it was due to a divorce she just didn't want to hassle with trying to sell it. She did offer it to me first, but given the value at the time (35-40) I couldn't make an offer that I didn't think was insulting (25). They paid her 20 for it and a couple of days later it was listed for 40 and sold in 24 hours (so they likely got very close to their asking price). I'm not against a shop making money, but $20k on the back of a long time and loyal customer for a car that they knew needed absolutely nothing? It's certainly her fault for not knowing the car's value, but I also think that's a pretty crappy way to treat your loyal customers. Yes it galls me that I could have had a clean no stories 993 for $25k just before their prices took off so take some of my animosity as you will, but I'm secure in the knowledge that I chose not to insult a friend with such a low price.
Even those that do complain about the prices and up sell techniques still keep going back, so they obviously like them well enough and that says something. It's just not the type of place I will do business with or would recommend for more than a PPI. Luckily we do have a selection of other high quality shops in the area.

To me it says they're in Tysons/Mclean, where lots of people can't be bothered with details like price and mightn't be too concerned with the long-term health of their current bauble.
