I just got pointed to this thread and didn't see it earlier. Kris, I am completely devastated to hear the news. I'm at a complete loss for words and absolutely crushed. I don't know what I can do to help, if anything, but know that I'm a phone call away.

You have a great spirit and I know you will make the right decision for you and your family. I can't imagine how difficult this is for you. I am saddened beyond saddened and almost physically ill over this.

Edit: Kris, I was speaking with Jake Raby at Flat Six tonight and he is more than amiable to discuss this with you. He saved my bacon a few years ago with a different car. Well worth a chat.

I've been in the same position, where a car I sold someone wound up with engine failure. Even though the buyer did something I explicitly explained NOT to do (replaced induction parts without retuning it), I felt terrible. Gator, props for posting your condolences.

There's no parallel to KK here and I wish people would stop saying otherwise, even in jest.

OP, sorry to hear.

OP, sorry to hear the bad news. It's still a beautiful red aero - I hope you redo the motor and bring it back to life - more track days ahead.

Ed, thanks for the awesome words. Don't worry, the car will be back up and running by April (when the track season starts for us poor people in the North East). I'm just bummed I took a car that you maintained so well and blew it up.

I'm headed away for the weekend, but will be pulling the pan when I get back to take a look. I've got a few friends from the club that have rebuilt a ton of motors so I'l get them to take a look too.

Once I have more info, I will be giving Jake Raby a call. The short term plan may be to swap another motor in, but if this one can be salvaged, I'd like to do it bigger and better, and maybe I should change it to an automatic since I obviously can't shift

Kris, the world needs more positive people like you. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Hell, find a motor and I will pay for shipping. Anything to help get you on the the way to being whole again.

Jake. You know your stuff. Pulled the pan today to find this. Guessing there is not much that will be able to be salvaged. Will start pulling the motor in the next couple of weeks. At least this proves that a dual row IMS can make it to 117K without going. Especially if the driver is an idiot.

Normal, and expected. Now you have the opportunity to begin again, only more intelligently. Take advantage of that, don't waste it!

Finding the exact moment I money shifted on video was not something I needed to see. Funny my best friend caught it on tape. It was loud. Guessing 4th to 1st. Amazingly the car made it one more lap before letting it all go. It happens right at the end of the straight. Two laps later you see me to the right just before turn 4.

Yea, that engine was spinning over something fierce for a few seconds.

What's your friend driving? He's been tracking a while I take it.

Buddy is in a 2015Corvette ZO6. We both started 7 years ago. My track car progression was 94 Miata, E36 M3, E36 M3 to the 996.

His was RS4 to E36 M3 to the ZO6.

When we were both in M3s, we had a ton of fun just trading positions. Now I just wait to see him in my mirrors and throw my arm out/missing shifts....

Just pissed I had a money shift in this car. I have a side business of parting out M3s, and if I blew up a motor when I had my M3, I just would have pulled one from our inventory. Time to start parting 996s!
