Default Lost the lug "Key"....What to do now?

Well my wheel cleaning project seems to have stopped pretty quickly now that I can't find my lug key...#@$#%&%$

If it is in fact lost what's involved with getting a new one?

How much, how long, and where?

TIA

Since you're in Westhampton, call John at the Service Dept. at Storms Motors in Southampton. He'll know what to do. But are you sure it's really lost? Sometimes it gets "lost" in the pouch with the tire changing tools.

I'm feverishly rifling through all my stuff as I write this.

I've been carrying my "track gear" between about 3 different duffel bags so who knows where it is......Hopefully it'll turn up.

Thanks for the optimism though....

Lance,

Have you had the car in for service recently? The techs at my dealership often "hide" the lug key in the glove box or in the door storage bins. Hope you find it.

Your dealer can figure out which one fits then you order a replacement. Or, just have the locking ones removed and buy normal wheel bolts. Jeff

It might still be attached to the torque wrench.

Spoke to the dealer this morning.

Looks like I have to buy a new set of either:

1. Regular lug nuts $45

2. 4 lug nuts plus a new "key" $97!!!

Any advice? I figure the theft probability on stock wheels is pretty low. But what about at the end of my lease? Will they penalize me if it has stock lugs without the key feature?

Once they match the key from their key kit why can't you order just a new key. Also, if you still have the plastic bag the key came in there will be a number. My bag has 010 on it, so if I lost the key I would order key number 10. Lastly, when I priced the normal wheel bolts last year I was quoted $4.29 each and your dealer wants over $10 each!

Toolpants...thanks.

I do have a bag with a bar code thing on it. Don't know if it's entirely legible but it's worth a try. I also have a "socket" in that bag that says Guerilla something or other and 3/4" and 15/16" on it I believe. Is that a socket that comes with the car too or did it somehow find it's way in there?

Is there a place online I could order regular lugs cheaper? Maybe Suncoast?

Just a thought, are stolen wheels a problem anymore? between cracking and misplacement the keyed lugs seem to be more of a problem than they are worth.

I've been thinking the same thing.

I have a 1997 Boxster and this is what I have. Have no idea about a socket in the bag that says guerilla - but I have an old car. The key fits into a 19mm socket and a 19mm socket is what we also use to remove our wheel bolts.

For others when I got my car I wrote the key number and radio code on the option sticker under the front trunk lid. No radio code on a 2003 MOST.

They way to remove one is to find what size socket (12 point) just does not fit onto the outside and hammer it on. You should be able to get it off in a few seconds then. It will damage the socket and scratch the wheel lock, but it will be off.
