Default MT Lost Reverse, then lost all other transmission gears

Not a great weekend of cars for me...

I drove my 02 Carrera Cab to dinner Sunday night, and I did have one issue with the clutch slipping ever so slightly when shifting from 2nd-3rd under hard acceleration, otherwise everything was fine drive-wise.

Sunday afternoon someone was test driving the car and then returned saying they couldn't get it into reverse. I hopped in and then when pushing in the clutch could not get the shifter to enter/engage any gear R or 1-6. From the shifter lack of movement, it felt like the clutch wasn't engaging allowing the gear to move into position in any way, even though the pedal felt normal. I read one post about the clutch cable clips and I plan to check it and the fluid level this weekend. Has anyone else had an issue like this, or know anything else I should be looking for before towing to an Indy shop for a possible Clutch replacement? (It does have 137k miles and I do not know the history of the clutch.)

It sounds more like a shift cable or clutch issue, but if it turns out to be a transmission issue, I do have a used one available.

Hopefully just the cable or clips holding them on, if so that's an easy fix.

More than likely the shift cables popped out at the transmission side. I've popped mine back in, but added a zip tie to make sure they stay there.

You actually let someone test drive your 996? Even worse, without you going along???

Agree with this. Only thing that will affect both cables for loss of R and 1-6. Probably the spirited test drive knocked both out.

In addition to cables, I would also check your slave cylinder for any leaks or air in the system.

Hahaha. Call me trusting. They are pretty solid cars (up until this at least)

Awesome, I hope so.

Every unsupervised test drive I have ever made was indeed quite "spirited."
