The car that keeps amazing me.
Haven't posted any pics since I bought it but the other day the sun was out and the top was down and the car looked clean...so here it is. For 16 years one owner and now me. MY 2000 46k miles, extensive service history, blah blah blah. I wasn't looking for a cab but every time I drove it I liked it more. And now I like it even more than when I bought it. It came with some ugly chrome twist-like wheels and I quickly dumped those for these. New Pilot Sports all around and now I just add gas and drive it. I have to find excuses to use the GTI now and then.
Oh yes...I like the headlights.

She's a beauty John! Super clean - the paint looks amazing... No surprise you like it so much. I think the wheels are much nicer than "chrome twisties"... The two big questions in my mind are:
1) Which watch do you wear while driving her? and.....
2) Do you change the oil yourself?

Great looking car John! Only problem is that it only registers 175 mph. Silly Mk1 Cab, mine will do 200 mph! bwahahahahahaha!
Anyway, where did you find the Carrera II wheels? Let me guess... you went to the Porsche dealership, smiled at the baristas, and had a few drinks while the parts manager went to the warehouse to find the last remaining ones in inventory. Am I right?

Looks good! How long have you had it? And no matter what anyone says, convertibles are just plain fun to drive when the weather is nice.
I also find myself driving my 996 more often than the much newer hot hatch.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I bought the car in January. The color is just plain black. No spacers on the wheels...which I bought from Wheel Dynamics and they gave me a good price on the old chrome ones...I gave it a non-dealer service at the indie lot I bought it from (oil change, tiptronic fluid and seals change).
I was looking for an early duel row IMS bearing model with mechanical controls on the frunk and engine bay latches, the real spare tire...all the old school stuff. I wasn't planning on buying a cab, I was just using this car as the base line to compare the others I was driving. But this one drove better than all the others, had the best history, and I started to really enjoy the cab feature so I just surrendered to the car and bought it.
I actually sold a couple of my Rolexes to help finance this car. I rotate my remaining two Rolexes when driving it. The only DIY I partake in is washing it once a week. For the time being my 2013 GTI has become "the collector car" with only 8700 miles. It gets to go to dinner when there is another couple and I might give it a couple of track days.

I never thought I'd do the cabriolet thing either, but found a beauty with an included hardtop.
Unfortunately, I have to clean out a side of the garage before I can remove that hartop, as my window on the soft top has delaminated (common issue).

When I had my cab, I was the jackass driving around with the top down, heater on and heavy coat in 45 degree weather. I loved it. Now the first thing I do in my coupe is open the sunroof and roll down the windows when I get in. It's not as good as a cab but surprisingly close. I've always thought sunroof's were useless until this car. I guess since you are so close to the roof it gives it a different feeling.
