My '99 996 cab started right up after sitting for over two weeks. Had to use the key to open the door of course. Not bad for a six year old battery. Living on the Edge over here.

I felt exactly the same way when I let mine sit for 10 days and started with no issues.

What's the deal with the "key to open door" thing? Does the sensor turn just itself off after a few days for power savings?

Yes. After 5 days the key remote electronics shut down. Have to use the key.

When I'm leaving town, I just leave it unlocked in my garage. Hop in and it starts right up. Longest thus far is 13 days.

Yes. Car locked - after 5 days of inactivity the remote sensor shuts off to conserve power. Not a bad idea actually.

As a former engineer, it amazes me that the remote sensor uses so much power to listen. Must be the 90s era technology. A car battery is enormous.

This is a timely thread. Just heading out on a Euro vacation for 20ish days. We'll see what happens...

Spend the $20 on a battery maintainer and never again wonder if the battery will be shot...

I have a trickle charger at home but on occasion I need to leave my P-car in my office garage (which doesn't have a power outlet).
