Default Those $79 eBay Aluminum Pedals Installed (pics)

I know a few people have been wondering about them. I bought a set and installed them tonight. I'll edit this with more detail later, but one thing you should do if you get this set - do the brake before the clutch! This will allow you to get the alignment right the FIRST TRY. I had to do it twice...

Here is a link to HI-Res pics

I have installed a couple sets of those that customers have brought me, and I will agree, they are very nice for the money. Drilling the brake pedal is the worst, it helps to have a 90 degree drill since you can't compress the brake pedal very far (and it is metal). The clutch pedal is easy with a normal drill as it is plastic and compresses down all the way. Gas pedal is easy as well. Takes about an hour if you take your time to make sure everything gets lined up (and maybe a trip to the hardware store to find the exact sized hardware...it seems included hardware for pedal sets are sometimes close, but not perfect in length, etc)

They look slippery. Will they grip on wet shoes?

Hi.

I got those same pedals from ebay. They have been just sitting in my garage for the past month. I do have some questions if you don't mind:

For the gas and deadpedal: Do you just align and drill with self-tapping screws? Is it possible to flood the car if you press on the gas pedal while drilling?

For the brake and clutch:

Did you use clamps or just mark holes and drill away? Why do you suggest doing the brake first?

What type of drill bit did you use?

Thank You

they have the rubber inserts, so I assume the grip will be pretty good.

These pedals are two pieces - aluminum and plastic back. If you take the plastic part off, you can use it as a template to mark the drill holes. If you use this method, you don't need any clamps. I dirlled small holes in the dead and gas pedals. I already had the drill out, so I couldn't see a reason not to drill starting holes. I used a marker to mark the holes, and then drilled them using Dewalt bits.

You should do the brake first because it is metal, hard to access, and difficult to get the drill to angle at all. You need the angle because the pedals themselves are curved, and if you don't drill angled (or drill a mega-hole), your screw heads won't be flush with the pedals.

Note all the scratches and mis-starts in the close up of the brake pedal. This is why my holes didn't end up exactly where I intended them to. It is HARD to get the brake holes to match up - but it was easy (the second time) to get the clutch holes to line up! The clutch is plastic so you'll get the right placement the first time you drill (or in my case, the second time). I ended up boring out the holes on the brake pedal so my screw heads would be flush with the curved pedal.

So if you do the brake first, you can adjust the placement of the clutch easily, and ensure a nice even setup. If you do the clutch first, you'll end up stuck with where ever the brake holes get drilled.

Below are my clutch marks using the template for the clutch. They are uneven in these pics, and the reason my first try came out bad. If you do the brake first, you will be able to use the template to get a nice even placement.

Here are some pics of the BACK of the clutch. Note how far the final screws are from the first holes I drilled (note the bottom screw in both pics). Also note -> the placement of the screw on the pedal may not allow you to use the washer! (again the bottom screw) In this case, I used a dab of superglue to discourage the nut from moving.

Definitely put a towel or something down -> BEFORE you start.
