Stock Pads for track
So I would like to get some opinions, especially from those who have first hand experience - what can I expect from stock pads on track?
I will be hitting some track events this year with this NEW to me stock MK1 996 and need to decide if I should upgrade before or just go and have a blast. I've been to track long time ago on a much different FF car, and did an extensive brakes upgrade at that time, but that was an AE92 with stock brakes. I ended up with Hawk HP+ pads and swapped the whole front setup from Camry back in the days.
But this is a Porsche...
Thanks

What kind of events? If you're doing autocross or small-course events, factory pads will still meet/exceed your needs.
If you'll be on a large course / track with high-speed straights where you'll be dumping a ton of heat into your brakes to get down to corner speed from 100+ MPH, track pads might not be a bad idea.
Fresh brake fluid is probably the single most important "upgrade" for those events...

So, I might not know what I'm talking about, but that's my experience.

If you go with track pads, keep an eye on your rotors and replace them before any of the cracks radiating from the drilled holes start to intersect.

A reasonably inexpensive "track" pad is EBC YellowStuff
Shop around online and then call Summit Racing. They will beat your best price by $1. Free fast shipping as well
A set front and rear is between $225 and $260
Definitely flush your brakes and use a good brake fluid, at least ATE type 200. Motul 600 is better, but about twice the $. Always bleed themn before an event and flush yearly if tracking a bit or 2 years if not
I just did 3 days at the Ca Festival of Speed and the YellowStuff worked great at 125+ to 40 slowdowns for corners. No fade at all

bleeding just removes a small amount from the calipers
flushing replaces it all, just under 1 liter needed
Also, you should do some AX, it is the best place to practice and learn car control
what tires are you thinking of using?

If this is the 1st time on the track with the pcar I would go with what you got. That goes for brakes and tires. Its the best way learn the car. After a few track days get some track pads. But whatever you do bleed your brakes.

+1 on Ate Typ200. I run this fluid for track and street driving with great results. Even at ACS.

I've used StopTech Street Performance pads at ACS coming off the roval going at top speeds of 145MPH with OK results. I had to push my breaking point earlier because I honestly didn't have enough bite and blew it once. Wish I had more bite with the StopTechs, but plan to test out HAWK or Carbotech pads for the next time out.

Just the tires I have for now, Toyo Proxes R1 or something, rear got a little life on it, so after an event or two, I will change them.
Auto-X, done that long time ago, not my cup of tea.
So, EBC Yellows will probably be my choice - front and back, or just front?

Finished my first 5 - 15 min session of DE at Hallet and the new EDC Red Stuff pads and the Motul600 are holding up very well. The rotors not so much. They have started warbling earlier and earlier in the session. I'm easing into them, holding consistently, and easing out to start my turn but 100 to ~30 is hitting them really hard. I guess it's time for new ones?
This may be one of the funniest things I've done in my life. Did some ride alongs with one of the other groups. The 2015 GT3 was unbelievable to ride in. But it made the track seem really really small. The spec Miata was a blast to ride in also. Those things can really turn.
I've only touched my brakes once in a turn and these cars don't like that very much. Spin, spin both feet in. But at least I stayed on the track. Still got the black flag and a stern lecture. Did I mention how fun this is?
