normally a lurker first time poster. so i bought my '99 C2 back in January and have been fixing a few of the problems with it when i came across an interesting find im hoping someone can help we with. while changing out the brakes and rotors i found these for my front shocks.
so can anyone tell me what shocks those are? im pretty sure the springs are stock along with the rear shocks and springs.
also some pictures of my not so new but still kind of new C2
According to Pelican Parts, it's one of the OEM shock sizes - I believe for non-PASM-equipped cars. Think it's a direct replacement part (i.e. not an upgraded item).
If the shocks you pictured are shot, the PSS10 coilovers are a decent upgrade (I like 'em).
ok thanks for the info. must have been replacement for the original set in the car. wasn't sure what they were since they were not plain black like the rear shocks were.
It,s the aftermarket version of the oem shock The valving is probably similar to the m030 optional sport suspension. The hd version is valved the same but about 1/2 in longer shaft for longer US springs than the sport ones (only a part number will tell for sure). The aftermarket ones are also rebuildable where the factory Bilsteins are swaged and not rebuildable.
MMNuke - Welcome and nice looking car you have there. And, based on your location and username, I'm going to go out on a limb and say thanks for your service.
Congrats! I was an ELT on a SSBN in Bangor back in the 90's. I had a 928S and when I sold it, I regretted it every day until I bought my current 996. Enjoy it and never let it go!
According to this site http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/p...lstein-Porsche Those are B8 "sport" struts, which are shorter than the stock units. Unfortunately, it looks like the p.o. kept the original springs (all I can see is one white dot...). I'm not sure why this would be done, as it's clearly a mismatch, and wouldn't help in the handling dept. If you replace with sport struts, you should use sport springs as well. Good Luck
