Insurance, yet again
I know that this is a beat to death subject but as I was getting ready to fill out the paperwork to get the new to me C4S insured with Leland-West and American Modern Home I decided to look at a couple of other quotes. What found was interesting to me at least. USAA was the most costly, Leland-West was the second most expensive this time around. Grundy came in second and the least expensive was Classic Auto Insurance. They are close to $300 less than LW/AMH and $500 less than USAA. ANybody use these guys? If so, how are they with claims. I have been with Leland-West since I got my first Porsche in 2000 and never had a problem. Had a glass claim on my 964 and that was smooth sailing as far as the claim process.

Wife has insurance..I just drive it. Too many factors to compare: driving record/age/sex/location/previous claims/deductibles/state mandates/medical...etc. State Farm full coverage/comprehensive/$500 deductible/multi-car discount/free windshield $720/year, 99 Cab

Our house and DDs are with Allstate. But they are crap for rates on "exotic" or "performance" type cars. It was interesting since this was the first time Leland-West was not competitive enough to just stay with them.

USAA may not win every rate comparison, but they are the best company. Hands down. Their level of sevice is second to none. Remember too, most years you will get a refund of some percentage. Mine was over $200 this year, though admittedly I have four cars and two houses with them.
A friend recently switched his homes and cars over to USAA from Allstate and his total savings were over $2K a year. He was stunned.

AAA is great. They also give "dividends" back to customers every year.
Great rates and service.
As a bonus, if you have a kid ready to get a license, they do not charge for covering the teenager from 15 1/2 to 16 1/2

Thanks for all the responses. I will revisit USAA and look at AAA. On another note, Classic Auto Insurance looks like it is underwritten by American Modern Home Insurance. Which is interesting since they are the same company that Leland-West uses. I need to determine is L-Ws Select extras are worth the extra expense. But which ever, you have to have insurance.

I had AAA for many years and was very pleased, however I don't recall ever receiving dividends. I was pleased until my 16 yr. old son was put on the policy and it doubled. No claims, no moving violations, not even a parking ticket in over a decade with 6 drivers over the years. Just switched to Geico last fall.
As others have stated, it is going to depend on your own circumstances (history, FICO score, area where you live etc.) as to what is your best choice. I think there are a number of good choices and AAA and USAA (if you qualify) are right up there.

Just got off the phone with USAA. For the Porsche alone they were $1210/yr. Close to three times the cost of Classic Auto Insurance (American Modern Home). If I moved DDs and home to USAA the Porsche would drop to $1010 a year. Still quite high IMHO. AAA is supposed to call after filling out online quote. We have clean driving records, own home, FICOs 810+.

This thread motivated me to shop auto insurance for my cars so I started with AAA. I was surprised to be told today that they would not cover a Porsche for collision damage!
So - I'm confused as to how you guys seem to be high on them as a provider when I can't even get coverage. This is AAA Carolina of course, so maybe it is just them but seems odd AAA would cover these cars in some parts of the country and not in others.

I have Liberty Mutual and pay $1200+ / year for 996 c4, but I currently have ticket which expires in Aug 2016. Dam you Lexus Nexus. Currently pay $2700/year for porsche, minivan w/full coverage > $500 deductible and basics for honda. Think Geico has more competitive rates in SE.
FYI - Have Carport, no garage in current home and that affects which insurance comp. I can use and does drive price up for others.
