Well, the water cooled side of the fold this time around. Picked up a 2004 C4S Cab and since if there is not it picture, it did not happen. Here it is. Had a rocking good drive from Chattanooga to Saint Louis. This is a Florida/Georgia car now getting used to the cold midwest, LOL. Without further ado, meet the yet un-named car.

Great looking car... I'm sure you know this already but it has the wrong wheels on it... look at how far inset the rear tires are.

I know, need some spacers, but those are Porsche wheels. I wonder if spacers were originally there but removed when the PO put aftermarket rims on. I am looking at some 19" three piece. Or there is a set of black spoke with red lip RUF Speedlines floating around somewhere on the internet - I think they are 18's. I had 17" Targa Speedlines that I moved from car to car through the years, but I left them on hte last 993 I sold. Ooops.

Yeah I know those are Porsche wheels but they're not made for a wide body 911... that's why the rears are so tucked in. You should have minimum of a 285 tire in the rear... those are probably 265's with the wrong offset. Take a look at the wheel by the valve stem and it will say the width of the wheel and the offset. Let us know what it says.

Are they the "XRC 18" Sport Techno Wheel"? Interesting that they would offer that as an option looking as it does. The dealer made a point of telling me that the PO only had the car for nine months or so before trading it with a M4 on a new 991TT. Which lost boost the day before I was there from what my rep told me. I will look at the tire size and offset in the morning. Looks like my first big puy will be new rims and tires, sigh. Anyone running 20"ers?

Stick with 18"s, especially here in the Midwest. Just take your time and look for a used set that works. Once you have the replacements, then sell your old ones. No big deal.

Thanks for the props. I do like the Basalt Black and full leather interior. The CDC23 is iffy, radio reception sucks, but with the Bose system I believe I have the MOST fiber optics so - screwed.

On the rear tire emaciated look - tires are 295/35s. Offset is 63. My 996 Essential Companion just arrived (gotta love Amazon Prime) and these are the specs listed for an 2004 C4S Cab. So it's 17mm spacers in the back for now. Adrain states that the only spacers Porsche approved are 5mm in the front and 17mm in the back. I am not really a spacer fan, would rather get the correct offset.

My poor bookshelf - I have Adrain's Companion books from all my old p-cars. Gotta be 20 pounds of his books if an ounce. There is a set of BBS CH-R's available with 235/35/19 et51 305/30/19 et56 available. They are off a 997. But in my searches - TireRack & 1010tires, I get different tire sizes and offsets obviously depend on rim manufacturer. But IIRC TireRack shows the rears at 45mm so I need t figure out fitment. Freaking offsets always muddle my brain. My air-cooled were so much easier since I just moved those Targa rims from car to car to car. Plus I need to clear out all the spare parts from my previous weekenders before I start playing.

I do have to say that owning a Porsche is a lot like owning a Harley - you can make them yours buy changing rims, trim and the like. And yes, buying chromed pieces for a Harley can get just as expensive as pieces parts for a Porsche. BTDT.

Welcome to our special little world. The 996 C4S Cab was only imported into the US for two years, 04 and 05. So we are indeed a very rare breed. Good looking car and welcome back into the fold in high style. Cheers
